Captcha for the support forum!
Mentlegen, while observing the growing amount of spammers in this Forum, I wondered why it did not have a captcha system on it. Its easy to set up and would really help moderators which have to waste their time removing topics about the latests software for uploading DVD files to your PC.
What say you?

Re: Captcha for the support forum!
I asked Typlo and he told me that it isn't possible to add this yet. It is a good suggestion to be able to have Captcha on all ways to register on a forum no matter if its on Admin, User or Emaill Activation.

Re: Captcha for the support forum!
At my time, the techies had denied such a request.
It was explained that bots are starting to be programmed to be able to read Captchas
ForuMotion already has an Anti-SpamBot plug-in installed though. When you register, you are asked to confirm your password on another page. This may seem a "simplistic" approach, but being (to my knowledge) the only ones doing this, not many bots are able to pass the barrier. Indeed some manage, but they are extremely inferior in number to those who were passing before.
Just before this was installed, the ForuMotion team was banning and deletig no less than at least 20 accounts per day

Re: Captcha for the support forum!
I'd say this would help a little bit. If we had 2 Captcha systems, it would definitely not be suitable for common spambot programs. Right now, placing this link onto Gaia will generate about 100 spam accounts within the coming day. So really, its something beyond our direct control, although we can still protect us a little bit more.

Still, this forum appears to be being attacked by spam bots at the moment. A captcha might stop the bots in their tracks.Caihlem wrote:At my time, the techies had denied such a request.

Re: Captcha for the support forum!
I have seen some forumīs having to take this measure to extremes, applying them to every single post or new thread.
Of Course, I am not suggesting this as a measure of this size is not currently necessary, however, a simple Captcha system while one registers would be most useful.

Re: Captcha for the support forum!
On another note, a random thought came to me. Its a wild idea, perhaps even stupid to some degree, but I thought I should share it.
As you may or may not have noticed, most of the spam bots use polls whenever they make a spam thread. Wouldnīt disabling poll options for members with less than 3 posts somewhat complicate their lives?

Re: Captcha for the support forum!
I don't recall seeing an option to stop it like that. But I was reading if you remove a profile field at registation it will throw an error at the spambot.

Re: Captcha for the support forum!
There should be a spam filter which allows us to add key words to the filter where the posts would automatically be blocked.
So for example the words: DVD, how to, free and tutorial appear in the same post at once, it would automatically be blocked.

Re: Captcha for the support forum!
Cal, we still seem to be getting spammed daily, and coming to be quite routine, and quite boring to be honest.
We could add something other than a capatcha if that doesn't tickle your fancy
The tut for it seems simple too http://help.forumotion.com/tricks-tips-f32/how-to-add-image-verification-to-your-forum-t9643.htm

Re: Captcha for the support forum!
Since we now have this option for all the support forums when a new user registers. I'll go ahead and Archives it.
