Only 2 votes, how dissapointing. Surley when peoples forums grow big and members come complaining that they can't locate old topics you will want the search to work properly. Please vote yes!

Don't know if you read through your own threads...so here's a very helpful post for your problem.

werefree wrote:If you are using phpBB2 or phpBB3, this is not a forumotion problem. The phpBB search function sucks. You're better off getting bots to index your forum and using their search function instead. For example, if your forum name is http://example.forumotion.com and you want to search for the term "chicken", you can enter the following into Google:

<span style="background:#f0f0a0; padding:3px;">chicken site:example.forumotion.com</span>

and Google will only show results from your forum. If the Google bot has indexed your forum, the search results will be MUCH better than what you get using the internal phpBB search function.

Yes I do read my own threads obviously. That is not a good enough option for me, I don't want to use an external search because a forum should have an inbuilt search.

Furthermore seeing as I do administrate forums running off of phpbb2 and phpbb3 through private hosting, the search features work perfectly fine. So no - this isn't a phpbb issue, but a forumotion one.

babaganoosh, perhaps you would care to test out the search feature here on the support forum and then compare to a busy forumotion forum. Wink

Definitely agree!! An improved internal search is desperately needed with our forums. The problem with the google searches is that you have to wait until the google bots index your topics and threads. Until this happens, which could take awhile, your posts aren't able to be searched and found.

I joined Forumotion nearly 2 years ago and I've been advocating and trying to get a better search implemented practically from the start. As I've also said numerous times it would even help the help forum here as well because people would be able to find what they are looking for rather than asking the same questions over and over. Therefore, it will save all the moderators time and energy trying to find the information that someone is looking for. A better, improved, fixed search will benefit us all!

Please, please, please can we get the search fixed and working like a search engine should....Please! Smile

Google indexes my site every minute, so the content/results appears almost instantly.

But nonetheless, the phpbb search feature is really bad. Forumotion should tweak it a little. Perhaps by setting the default option to "Search for all terms".

WHAT NEEDS fixing?
The internal FM search, or the google indexing for forums?

The internal search facility does not work satisfactorily and since it doesn't appear to being addressed, I was looking for how to manage a work around.

I agree fully!
On the french support forum, the internal search engine doesn't account for 3 letter keywork searches ! (that can be very bad, esp. if the search keyword is important).

Nb: Your're right to remind the FM team, I'll do likewise on the french forum and remind the webmasters of the urgency.

Yes, please FIX the search!!! Why can't this be done? But now it's even worse, the Google/Advanced search doesn't work anymore either! Sad Sad Sad It used to work and pretty well, but now it's not even giving results from our own forums and the results are in French.

My forum seriously needs the search function as the forum acts for a place to recommend fan-made fictional stories. The only thing needed to is for the search button to include the text within posts, not just the post title or topic titles.

Yes, the Search is broken. Well, at the least it is not fully functioning. Here's how - it ONLY searches the Titles of posts, it DOES NOT search the body or content. Please fix this!! Every other Message board on the planet has this working right...come on Forumotion, get it together!!!

Same problem, just started a forum by FM and just moved all stuff over from an old forum to the new one... And now, now they are complaining because the search engine does not search post but only topic headers.... This is BAD, I have never come across a forum that does not had a post search... Please fix it, it could't be that hard, every other forum maker has it.

I've already asked Luky to bring it to Typlo's attention but other than, we will have to wait to see what FM will do. it might be a while from the looks of it.

There seems to be a few topics about this and there are lots of votes in each topic for a better search, perhaps a moderator can merge all the topics together. However, will all the votes be added together?

Bumping up. Smile Let's get together and let forumotion know that we NEED and WANT the search fixed here. Any of us with forums that rely on searches (which is nearly any forum) need an effective internal search! This is a very basic feature/function of ANY forum, hosted or not, paid or free. It's CRUCIAL!

Does not searching by tags let you search in posts?

Since you can use hashtags, you can search for tags in posts/messages. This suggestion will be archived.
