Advanced Chatbox 2.0 Suggestion (Over 200 votes!)

First topic message reminder :

The Forumotion Chatbox is vital for communication on SEVERAL forums, and from time to time I personally notice its missing a few features. I have made a list with a description of these features below. With your help, we can make this a reality for forumotion.

*Notice: This is COMPLETELY separate from the pop out chat 2.0, and has nothing to do with it. Though, the pop out chatbox does provide SOME of the features listed below, and I highly recommend it!*

Delete Function
Descrption: Moderators/Administrators may delete individual chatbox messages.

*NEW* Universal Feed Channel (Admins/Mods Only)
Descrption: The universal feed channel will show all messages being posted on the chatbox, including whispers, and private chat channels, for easy moderation.

Advanced Permissions
Description: Manage several permissions of the Advanced Chatbox such as some of the permissions listed below with a panel similar to the Forum Permissions Advanced Panel

Permission to view Chat - Limit the people who can view your chat by Usergroup, and/or username.
Whisper Function - Limit of the use of people who can use the Whipser function by Usergroup and/or username (The same ability you have with limiting Private Messaging in the forum)
Report Function Integration - Limit the use of the Report function by Usergroup and/or username.
Channels - Limit the use of SPECIFIC channels by usergroup and/or username.


Whisper Function - Can be disabled
Description: Send a message to specific user(s) on the chat that is only viewable to the users your specified

Ex.

User A: (Whisper to User B) Test Message

Private Chat Channel
Description: Creates a private channel that the creator can invite people into (Admins CAN monitor these channels!)


Notification - Optional
Description: Browsing another tab, but you fear you'll miss a message? Sound is unpopular, so I went for a different approach.

If a message is sent, your tab will flash (like a highlighted tab), Off by Default, can be activated via the ACP and Users can disable it specifically for them via the Profile/UCP.

Sound - Optional

Description: Chatbox will "chirp" when it has received a message



Report User Function - Optional
Description: People just don't break rules on the forum. They also break 'em on the chat as well, but if no mods are present, the abuse will continue.

With the Report User Function, you can right click a user on the Online list and click "Report User" which would send a report into the Reports panel, with a copy of the archives at the time for further investigation.

Channels/Instance - Off by default
Description: Need to discuss something with a group of users? Go into another Channel/Instance! Very useful to hold a Moderator meeting without disabling the whole entire chat to other users.

Of course, Channels can be managed by the Advanced Permissions function to specific usergroups/users

If anyone wants changes, I'll edit this.

Avatars - Optional, Enabled by Administrator
Description: Have a small version of the users' avatar on the chat

3 things for me are missing

1)Sounds !
2)Private Chat (communicate in private with one member while talking to others)
3)Avatars

Of course the first 2 are my most important missing pieces to Forumotions chatbox.
I've tried other chatboxes in place of the standard one, but the same problem returns- Security
You can't monitor users who can access your chatbox from other locations.
That is what the standard box has going for it- usage by your members only,

Adding the above features would make it perfect in my book

When there is more than five people in a chat, I find it quite difficult talking to someone while trying to hold and read five different people. I can live without the avatars, but I think a Private chat function would be the most beneficial add on to the chat. Also, some way to let me know when someone has said something would be great too.

More support anyone?

I don't want the small avatar... that seems a bit pointless, and it would make it harder to find a moderator if your forum is highly active...

Yeah the chatbox needs more attention than it's getting, it's fairly important at my site.

I would really love this to be implemented.

Would there be some way to add or link the dice rolls to the chatbox, with a command like /dice xDx (3D6, 1D20, etc).
And maybe a feature to auto-add the total of multiple dice, for example 3D4 displaying as (2, 4, 3) 9.
Also a way of adding a static bonus to the roll. /dice xDx+x or xDx*x

That way people could use their chatbox to play an RPG in real time, while chatting to each other, etc.

(I spent about an hour searching to see if this was already possible, and another to see if it has been suggested before, and I cant tell that it has).

Could you please add the option to have a minimum post count to use the chat room (as we do for PM) - as I have people join just to use chat - that is not what my forum is for it is just an added feature....

Makes more sense to ask you to add it to your post than me starting a new poll for one feature...

I agree, I like the idea of adding new features to the chatbox, especially a channels tab. My forum isn'y very popular right now, but when it gets more members, I'd be glad to have a updated chatbox for all of us to enjoy.

This is something I would really like to see. It would be a great addition to the forumotion forums.

Please do this. I agree with all of the other stuff in the first post beside the avatar part. It would clutter the chatbox in my opinion.

Looking forward for this suggestion to be implemented.

When Right Clicking On A Username(The one in online and away)
*Admins
-Turn To CMod - Make the user a chatbox moderator.
-Take CMod - Make a chatbox moderator into a normal user.

How about,add a button that only the admin can see before the chat of every user.If you click that button,it will give these options.
-Edit - Edit the message in that chat.
-Delete - Delete the message from chat.

I think it should be more customizable so you can add a background image to it (if you can then make it so you don't need CCS and just use the pictures thing) and an option which keeps what it says on forever (until a certain amount of posts on the chatbox [eg. 30 {you can customize that bit}) because all my members are on at different times so we can't chat to each over, so I took of my chatbox... I vote yes

I agree, the ChatBox does lack some vital features and some of your suggestions would be a huge improvement to the current one.

I would love to see this happen! I was just asking in another forum if this was possible.

Is there any way to maybe add a mic or webcam option?
