A higher limit to characters in messages*

Post by crunk89 on August 24th 2007, 2:34 pm

First topic message reminder :

Characters in the messages: 15 999 characters (Including spaces)

Hi 'd like to propose the idea of a bigger limit to the charcaters we use in messages.
I oftenly have problems using only 15 999 in some threads(specially collections) that I update everyday or in posting NFO files that contain ASCII art in a code
Pls can this be done Smile?

Voted no because if it was raised, this would allow spammers to create more spam.

Besides a spam forum, what about other forums? Also, if this option would be optional I would vote yes. Smile

still, it would take quite a long time for a spammer to spam 5 pages.
So i dont see the big deal

Spammers should be warned then banned - should not restrict other members and forums for that reason.
It's like being told to not go out of your house while the streets are not safe due to lack of policing

Yes for those that need/want it
No for those that don't

I vote for option button by admin, rather than yes/no

I know the feeling man, but trust YOU to bring up the computer geek stuff Lol

Because this would allow spammers to spam even more (and be even bigger asses) I am voting no.
However if this were to be optional, I would vote yes, because I do see, and know where Dr Inferno is coming from, because I understand (and know well) his woes.

For the reasons above, I am NOT voting just yet.

Yeah, I run a forum for the flash game Free Rider 2, and users post codes for their track that they create in the game; and the codes are extremely long.

Re: A higher limit to characters in messages*

Yes, please.

I have a role-playing message board, and it's really quite annoying when you're trying to write a story, essentially, and you can't fit everything you want into one post. Additionally, we have a character library where we store all of our character's descriptions, and it's even more irritating when you can't even fit an entire description of a character into one post. It looks really cluttered when you have two separate posts for one single character.

This seems like its been either debated or ignored for a very long time, so I'll try and not get my hopes up here... :/

I voted yes. thumleft

But the admin should be given the option to set a limit either more than the current limit, or less, should he wish. That way the admin has sole control over his forum, and can control how many characters his members' posts can get.

That's no big problem, seeing as it only takes a second to delete the post...Wink
But it did make me think. Perhaps the admin could be given an option to specify how many characters are allowed to posts by members with a certain post count.

This is the suckiest limitation in forumotion. It doesn't make any sense to limit the number of characters, especially to a pathetically low number. bwi
