soft Deletes

Post by Leaf on May 7th 2010, 5:00 am

I was wondering if the forumotion crew is thinking about putting together a way to obtain "Soft deletes" For your forum.
This is a wonderful feature, and I would love to have it.

Will this be in other updates?

This may help you on what a soft delete is

What dose this mod do?

This mod is a time saver for big forums Admins and Moderators, this mod will place two buttons one for quick soft delete and the 2nd for quick physical delete.

This mod was tested on vBulletin 3.7.3 and 3.7.2 and *should* work on 3.6.x and 3.5.x

List of features:

1. Inhert the permissions from vbulletin usergroup permissions.
2. A conformation popup message will apper for physical deletion.
3. If the thread contain only 1 post it will auto delete the thread.
4. when an Admin/Moderators soft delete a post an auto messeage will apper( This message has been deleted by XXXX) where XXXX will be the username of the admin or modrator who deleted the post.
5. Auto Reload Page after deletion ( you can enable/disable it)

Please note this is only a bit of info i have got off of a thread on vbulletin
other info i have found on this was made by a mate of mine on some other board.

I want to be able to delete a post, but keep it in-line of the original thread and view it when needed. Un-approving posts works somewhat, but long threads get very messy with lots of unapproved posts scattered through them.

In vbulletin, when you soft-delete a post, it gets "minimized" inside the thread. If you have permissions to view soft-deleted posts, you can click a link to cause some sort of ajax call to happen and the post expands out to show the entire thing. Otherwise, it is left to be a very small in-line 3 row area of a post that shows the poster, the post deleter, the time of the post, and some other bits of information. It takes almost no space, except to show those with appropriate permissions that a soft-deleted post is present.

I've used a "trashcan" functionality in the past with other forum software, but it doesn't preserve the structure of a post like soft-deleting does. I don't want users to be able to hard-delete stuff. A soft-delete permission lets them get rid of posts but also lets me see what they removed. I also have the permissions set so that they don't see soft-deleted posts. This keeps threads with soft-deleted posts in them even cleaner for my users.

If you was to add a poll to this thread i would have made a vote of a yes as i find its a lot better then the Trashcan
Ip boards now have this Mod added to there site so im told Wink
