Re: Double line spacing on enter
Hi skillboy,
I am the admin for the forum that Honeybee is referring to, is it the link to our forum that you are looking for? That will be ttr1.forumotion.net
Just to explain what the problem is, when typing in a Reply or Quick Reply and you hit enter, it leaves a double space, but when you send, the double space disappears. I can get rid of this by setting WYSIWYG to No, but we do not want that, and we have always had it set to Yes.
Many thanks for your assistance.

Hello Baldy
First explain what you mean by when you "send". What are you refering to?
And also, what version is your forum in?
I guess I will have to register on your forum to see what you are talking about

Re: Double line spacing on enter
hi skillboy,
What I mean by "send", is when you are finished typing your "Reply" or "Quick Reply", and you click on the "Send" button, and you "Reply" is posted. The double line spacing is not there on the post, which is how it should be.
We have just converted to invision from phpbb3.
There is a forum for guests that you can use to try it if you do not want to register.

Hi Baldy
I see what you mean now.
First what I would do is resync all your forums. It could just be an error.
If that doesn't work, consider changing your forums to php3 or punBB

Re: Double line spacing on enter
Thank you skillboy,
Sorry, I am a little green here, how do I resync all of my forums?
I am not sure that my members could take another change right now, they were almost rioting with the last change, which was done to overcome the Quote problem that we were all experiencing, but I believe that has been solved now.
Have a love day.

Resyncing will not destory the forum or any of the posts or threads.
Go to Admin control panel -> General -> Categories and forums
Then find on each forum and click on it

Thanks again skillboy,
can I do this while the forum is active, or should I put it into "Under Construction"?
Sorry to keep hounding you with questions.

You're users will be less upset because they won't want to unexpectedly see changes.
Put it in "under construction" then make a message, but don't keep it for too long.
However, it doesn't really matter

Re: Double line spacing on enter
Hello Latchy and Skillboy, that did not help, and I am still getting double line spacing on enter. I am not sure how much this helps, but I tried turning of WYSIWYG on General, Message, Configuration, Activate the WYSIWYG mode by default in the posts, and the double line spacing is fixed, but not for all of my members. Very strange?
I am not keen, at this stage, to change the version again, so I guess we will just have to live with it for now.
Thanks to both of you for all of your help so far.
Alan.

Re: Double line spacing on enter
latchy and skillboy... It appears admin are beaten on this one. We have just told the members to live with it. Changing back to phpbb3 would just confuse our members more. As baldy says we bit the bullet and changed to invision when the quotes were not working and they spent hours adjusting forum/home, changing to another version
I am sure a solution will be found soon.

Re: Double line spacing on enter
Wait, you just switched to invision because of a quote problem?
Maybe u should try switching to punBB or phpbb2.

Re: Double line spacing on enter
Hi skillboy... yip we did switch to invision because of quotes. I dont think we dare go back to what we were phpbb3. There was such an outcry. Now some who dont like the double line spacing are creating . Admin has said if we cant get a solution here it will just have to stay as it is. Quotes are used so much and when it was mentioned on here that quotes are working on invision we changed.skillboy wrote:Wait, you just switched to invision because of a quote problem?

Hello,
could you provide us with a screenshot of the problem please?
Also, could you please try clearing the cache & cookies of your browser?
Also, if you could, could you please try changing your skin just to see if the problem is skin-specific?

Re: Double line spacing on enter
Hi, I am a member of the forum mentioned and for those folk who frequent computer help sites you may have come across me as moderator and helper on some of them.
Consequently I am accepted as perhaps the more technically inclined member of this forum.
First I will explain that the double space only happens while using Internet Explorer, there is no problem when using Firefox as the browser. I can of course only speak for myself and my experience as most other forum members do not use Firefox or other browsers.
I have however done a couple of hopefully more explanatory screen shots for perusal, see below.
This first shot was taken using Firefox, and enter key used to show there is no problem in Firefox.
This next screen shot was taken using Internet explorer, as can be seen, every time the enter key is hit, the lines become spaced apart by double.
The double line spacing does not show when the post is entered, it only happens when writing in the reply box, both quick reply or normal full.
Regards to all involved and hope this provides some useful information.
Nev.

Yeah that's what we are doing now until we figure it out.
I did turn off the WYSIWYG feature and it worked for like a day, and now it's back to this. So I don't know wtf is going on. It's irritating but we just did a new set up and are not changing it for a long time.
Also, I don't know if you have this issue...But our Blogs replies are jumbled because the avatars are too big and overlap the replies.

That's okay, figured I'd ask to see since you were using invision.
It's probably the skin which really irritates me because I am not re-doing it. We spent so much time on that forum all ready. No on this forum seems to be able to help either so I guess we'll just change the blogs into boards instead. Either that or take up a collection and go try out vbulletin.

Re: Double line spacing on enter
V Bulletin can be expensive, I am a so called "Super moderator" on a computer help site using V bulletin, (Free PC Help) but at least on there donations are asked for if people we help, feel they want to put something back in for the help they received. A lot depends on whether you can ask for donations from your members to offset the running costs, otherwise you are on a long hard slog looking for sponsors/advertisers.
that applies though to any paid for forum.
To get back to the present problem, we may try a skin change or something similar and see how that goes, it is up to our chief admin as he thinks he may have seen a way round it.
One of us will keep you informed.

Re: Double line spacing on enter
Oh yeah, I looked up the prices months ago and my jaw dropped a bit in shock, but I liked all the features. It's something I know my members would donate for. And that is nothing against forumotion, because this is and will always be the best free forum service out there.
Anyway, sorry to hijack this topic. I hope we can all find a solution for our invision problems.
