Solved protecting your forum against 'intruders'

Post by Little-Louis on May 30th 2010, 7:04 pm

Hello,

First of all, I'm new in the 'business' of creating a forum. My questions is : can I protect my forum by sending account names and the associated passwordS to those members I want to give acces to the forum and keep other persons out ?

Thanks for the answer and maybe till the next time !!

The only way to keep others out is by locking the register forum. But once you do this you will not be able to register accounts for people. I would also provide accounts that you trust to people.

Confused

Dear MrMario,

So I suppose I can provide accounts to other people and keep others out ? Locking the register forum is an intervention I think I should learn. The consequence of locking the register forum is not entirley clear to me. Does it mean that since I locked the register forum, I can't invite other members ?

As you can read, I am a real rookie... Cool Cool

That is correct. Once you do that it prevents others from coming in.

Get all the people you want on it to register, then lock registering. That's what I suggest.

Solved Intruders

Post by Little-Louis on May 31st 2010, 6:56 pm

Clug and MrMario,

Ok, thx for the advice. Still two questions :
1) can you briefly tell me how to lock registering
2) is locking registering reversible ?

Greetz and thx for the answer,

LL

Ok, I did the above but still, after a check, people can enter the forum and read everything. Is there a way to protect the contence of the fora ?

Greetz again and hopefully I don't bother you guys with my questions...

By people I'm guessing you mean guests. In your control panel if you click general and then go to the forums. Click modify for each separate forum, ie introduce yourself, general, etc... Modify button is yellowish gold and there you can change permissions to members only or mods/admins only. They even have advanced settings for permissions that you can check boxes for different things like view images in the threads or view messages. That should solve your problem.

Permissions and un check view/read for guest // Save

You will have to do this for each section.
