Sorry if this is in the wrong forum. Posted here as I think this is an error in script.

I'm currently administrating my friend's forum, and have been doing so for a long time. We currently have 5 moderators (not including admins), and yet, only one of them is receiving a lot of connection-related problems. The problems include getting kicked out of Chat Sessions and sometimes logged off of the entire forum, and issues with reconnecting. Sometimes he can stay on the Chat Session for a while, make a couple of posts, before getting booted off again.

I don't know the problem completely (I'll post anymore information he can give me), but I've never experienced anything like this before.

We've tried finding our ways around it, attempting to fix it ourselves, but have had no luck. This includes making alternate accounts, which all work well until he is made a Moderator. We've made two groups, 'moderators' the hidden original one and 'Moderators', for coloured-names and allowing people into certain forums, but it still didn't work. We tested his account with other groups with different restrictions, but only the Moderator-based ones seems to cause problems.
At one point, we even thought a word somehow got added into the Censored Usernames list, but we were wrong.
I recall my friend mentioning something about Chat Session Moderators, and the Moderator Forums. Either of these could be a possible cause, but at the moment, I think there's a problem with one of the Moderator settings.

Thanks for any help received ~ I understand I may not have explained it properly, since I'm not 100% clear on the problem itself.

If he is the only one experiencing problems, tell him to clear his cookies and cache.

If that doesn't work, try a different browser.

King, we have tried this to no avail. He has cleared cookies and tried two different browsers, the same issue occurs.

During the tesing phase for this issue we somehow lost all the moderators from the mopderators list in the special users panel, none of our moderators could therefore ban, and this particular moderator had no issues whatsoever.

Since we managed to get them all back into the list, the issue came back for this individual.

Yeah. We've told him to clear cookies, caches, history etc. and I believe he's tried this on Internet Explorer 8 and Windows Chrome, so 2 browsers. As Vektrix explained, it's not really helped him.

Just now, it seems another individual, not a moderator this time, is having problems with his Chat Session. It sounds different, but I don't know if it's connected, or a one-off glitch.

Windows Chrome? I think you mean Google Chrome.

You can get kicked out of the chatbox if you don't send a message or if a moderator kicks you.

Sorry, my mistake. I was thinking about something else just then ^^' I meant Google Chrome.

We're aware users can get disconnected after 15 minutes, and kicked by moderators. But this user is also a moderator, both forum and chat session, and appears to be glitching quite frequently, getting disconnected for no apparent reason.

Possibly Broken Moderator Group Empty Re: Possibly Broken Moderator Group

Post by Tyranidking July 27th 2010, 6:42 pm

Greetings, I am Tyranidking, the one hounded by this glitch.

The glitch, lovingly named "Blasphemy" by me, is a strange one. It appears to be a corrupt moderator powers issue, however, no other mods are affected. Only me.

I can be a member without issue. Blasphemy only starts causing me trouble when I have moderator powers. Interestingly, I know marky, a member on our forums, also suffers from this when he's admin of his own forum.

Symptoms of a Blasphemy attack include:
*constant and excessive logging out. I log in only to be logged out moments later.
*Trouble logging in. It takes me roughly five tries to even log in for a bitter minute, at best.
*Chatbox auto log-off. I can get in the chatbox, post one message, only to realise I've been logged out forcibly from the entire forum.
*Cannot post in threads. If I try, it logs me out and does not let me back in.
*Cannot do anything without being logged out.
*Interestingly, I can hide safely in my own profile screen, but if I edit any of my profile features, it logs me out.

Things that do not work:
*Different browsers do nothing to stop Blasphemy.
*Clearing the cookies does not stop blasphemy.
*I've even tried different computers, so different I.P. No dice. Blasphemy just seems to hit harder.
*alternate accounts. We thought it might be to do with my account. It wasn't.
*Moderator panel corrupt. Turns out that other mods are quite alright, it's me that has problems.

Hope this helps.

One person says you clearing cookies and cache but you say that you only cleared cookies. Did you delete all cookies or just forum cookies?

If you have only clearing forum cookies, clear all cookies and clear cache.

If you have cleared all cookies, clear forum cookies again and clear cache.

If you have cleared cache, clear all cookies + forum cookies.

IE8 and Google Chrome.

Just cleared both the Cache and the Cookies, forum and internet. Will tell you how it turns out.

Blasphemy has a horrible tendency to attack just when I start celebrating, so I'm going to wait.

Done all that was requested. No avail with it, the glitch is still here.

I don't think there's very much more we can do on our end.

I don't think this is a problem with the forum since no one else is having this problem. I also have never heard of anything like this before.

What about your firewall/security settings? Is the forum on the block list? You might want to lighten the security settings if they are too high.
I don't think this is a problem with the forum since no one else is having this problem. I also have never heard of anything like this before.
Unfortunately I'm not the only one. Marky of The Graphics Community says he has the same problems. On a positive note, we seem to be the only two affected. I've had no reports of others being glitched like this, only me and marky.

At this point I would like to note my suspicion that something could, in fact, be wrong with eurospore. I'm an admin of a forumotion forum, made long before the Blasphemy incident. I can still log in to that forum fine, I have no problems at all with it. Eurospore is a different matter entirely. I've talked with my moderator on my forum and he says no such issue has appeared. It seems unique to me and eurospore, although there is the issue of marky suffering it also.
What about your firewall/security settings? Is the forum on the block list? You might want to lighten the security settings if they are too high.
I haven't actually touched my firewall settings in any way long before and after Blasphemy started. I've double-checked my firewall and can see nothing that hints to eurospore being blocked in any way. In actuality, eurospore seems to be completely free from my firewall activity.

I'd just like to thank you for stopping by to help our predicament, sir.

The two Eurospore Administrators, Vektrix and Rebecca, worked together to do just that. It sadly did not work for more than a minute.

There was also a problem where, in making a new moderators group, we actually came a cross a glitch where all the moderators no longer had their powers, and were no longer considered special users. Seeing as the plan was not successful, we reverted to the previous moderator group.

The glitch is only caused when I have moderator privelages. I suspected there was something wrong with it, but that wouldn't explain why only I am affected. I know it is limited to just eurospore, because I checked my other foum and I was fine on there.

Unfortunately, the glitch is getting worse.

As noted in this thread, me and Vektrix are the admins of the EuroSpore forum. As well as a small number of our users and the forum and chat sessions slowing down a considerable amount, I'm beginning to suffer what I think is the same glitch Tyranidking reported.

When I try to connect to the Chat Session, the menu at the bottom to allow me to write, change font and colour vanishes, and a couple seconds later I'll be disconnected. Happened twice today. I also got disconnected from the forum a couple times, and takes me a while to get back in after getting errors claiming my account does not exist.

I would be less worried if I weren't an admin - if Vektrix gets the glitch as well, and both of us can not log in, then our forum shall have no administrators. I've considered getting more administrators, but if it's the same as Tyranidking, then they'll get effected too.

That is Blasphemy, Rebecca. Looks like the little tyke is spreading.

Rebecca, Me, and a member, Icedmask, are all now suffering from this. It's only ever on eurospore, though. I imagine there is now something very, very wrong.

To members of other forums across forumotion, stay vigilant. Blasphemy has not attacked other forums yet, but that's not to say he won't. Keep an eye out for the symptoms and report the glitch here if it occurs.

Well, me and another user have checked one of our other forums. We appear to be having no errors there, so it seems it's down to EuroSpore.

A friend considered possible 3rd Party attacks, but we later came to the conclusion that the errors occurring couldn't be caused by another community.
