Profile design for members

Post by Kiekeboe on June 4th 2010, 8:55 pm

Hi!

Is it possible to make a HTML/CSS part in the member's profile, so they can edit the theme of teh forum, ónly on their own page[Profile]. It'll be a nice thing to add to my forum, and I can't figure it out witch one of the options will give this result.

Greetings

I'm sure that's not possible considering we can't even have multiple themes.

Just making sure I understand this right....you want to make it so that members are able to 'skin' or 'theme' just their profiles?

Yes, by using CSS, in a HTML valid space.
Just so they can edit the lettertypes, the color of it en so on.

Hmmm. This would be rather complex to do I think but doable. I'm just not sure how it is already that forumotion stores and retrieves data. I mean I suspect it's php but I've not a clue how that could be done.

Having looked at the profiles on the forum I mod on (phpBB3 BTW) it would either have to require php since switching between tabs in a members' profile actually loads a different page or I suppose somehow using jQuery to ajaxify a field from a specific page and then wrap the content of the field and append it to the head.

Yeah, so I am pretty sure it can be done. I have a bias and like jQuery but I am sure its the easiest way to do it at this point.

Without seeing how the profiles are set up in your forum I cant say for sure but assuming they are like the profiles on the forum I admit it it seems like it is possible to use jQuery to achieve this. Basically it would have to be some code attached to I think either the site description or the announcements (the latter being what I do on my site) that would function on every page searching for indicators that the page its working on is a profile in view mode....then if it discovers it is a profile in view mode it uses the URL of the profile in a formula to find the content of a div on a specific page...the div being an editable area of the persons profile that you've set up through the ACP....then takes the content of the div, wraps in in CSS style tags and appends it to the head.

So yes, in short...its looking promising.

Harvengure, you double posted. Just letting you know Wink
I don't think it's possible, althout maybe if you use Harvengure's suggestion, it may work.

Yeah, I realize I double posted. Razz Wanted to let them know that there was some progress being made since I am curious now if it can be done...the more I play around with the code the more it seems it can be done.
