Ad problems

Post by Hanziness on June 9th 2010, 7:59 pm

Hi, I've got some problems... the ads...

A story to understand me:
I tried to look my forum as a guest, and I saw, NoScript blocked something. I saw that the site is pubmatic[dot]com, I wanted to see how safe is it, and I got this: http://www.mywot.com/en/scorecard/pubmatic.com (I DID NOT VISITIED THAT SITE!)
Just look at the comments, users saying this site contains 3rd party cookies from other sites, and Google Safe Browsing also flagged it. From the school (there is NO ad blocking) I saw pubmatic and yieldmanager (Yahoo's adserver) is loading but the ad links to ad[dot]z5x[dot]net - http://www.mywot.com/en/scorecard/z5x.net - another bad site, users saying it has a "USA Greencard" scam! Nice, and the top of it, I got image ads instead of text ads (I have disabled image and video ads but image ads still appearing). Isn't this enough? Also, there is a new infection found by ALWIL Software, they named it JS:Prontexi, and the most poisoned server is yieldmanager.

This won't be maximum security!
AND: I WON'T PURCHASE CREDITS TO REMOVE ADS!! I liked text ads, they were OK, but image ads appearing instead of the old and good text ads.

I PM-ed Typlo about this but nobody can help.

When there were text ads, I was looking my profile from my school as a guest and I saw a "New message" icon and a date, that was a scam too!

Now, the most of the ads are: "Congratulations, your IP Address has been selected, and you can win an Apple iPhone! Click here to see it!", "You've got a new message! Click here to view it!" - these are all SCAMS!! I haven't got any problems with normal ads, like car advertisements, but I hate these scam ads. I highlighted the IP address because this tells us that this is a scam.

Sorry for giving you some work (if you replace those image ads with text ads), for giving you a looong story, and for giving you some very bad security news...
Ooops... and from the JS:Prontexi: http://blog.avast.com/2010/02/18/ads-poisoning-%e2%80%93-jsprontexi/ Smile

Thank you!

Those ads have just been added a week ago I think as I'd seen on some forums, we can't do anything about those ads but to buy credits to remove it, Sorry, but it's possible to set those ads for guests only.

Admin panel > General > Configuration > Allow Video Ads Format: Set it to No
> Activate Ads: Set it for guests only
> Text Ads Activation: Set it to No
And save changes

This will reduce the ads on your forum, See if that helps.

Text ads activation???? Where?

I have those settings, but I don't have "Text ads activation" Sad

My settings don't allow video and image ads, and my ads are activated for guests only. There isn't any "Text ads activation".

I tried to set video and image ads to yes then set back to no, but this is still happening, like the iPhone scam :'(

In the last few weeks, we had ads from Forumotion, but those were text ads, and 3 of 4 was the same but that wasn't problem.

This problem is really appearing for some forums, even though sometimes on my test forum also even though i set the permissions I gave above, The suggestion I can give for the issue is to only buy it through credits TT

well, there is no Text Ads Activation or such..

Just set the "Allow image and video format for ads" into No.

And set the "Activate Ads" into "Guest"

OK but image ads are still appearing... this is because pubmatic is the current adserver -.-'

Forumotion has the right to put their own ad's because its their service.

It looks like you need to buy credits and buy ad removal.

Admin Panel // Mics // Buy Credits // Pick Option on how you want them // Pick how much

Spend Credits // Ad Removal // Pick how long

Hi, I know and I just write about that what is that maximum security for putting ads that may harm a user's computer. And If you read my first post I wrote: I WON'T PURCHASE CREDITS, I make programs but for free, and I don't want to purchase credits just because I don't get what I sat - only text ads.

I didn't have any problems with Google ads, they were fully OK, but these...

I don't want to critise your work, Forumotion is the best free forum host and I didn't have any problems, just those ads.... :S

And here comes the boring part:
" I'm making programs for people to make their life easier. I have two text editors (a Rich Text Editor and a normal Notepad like text editor), a password maker, a timing application - for those who have some job and want to arrive correctly - and some others. I found Forumotion, I though: "Let's try this!", I tried it, and I have a forum since a year. I use my forum to publish my programs, and to make a good community. I don't think that people will visit my forum because those ads can be dangerous (I heard that an advertisement (something like these) popped up with a window and downloaded malicious content without the user's knowledge (on an other site - not on a Forumotion-hosted site)). These ads are very annoying, but the worst thing in them, is that we want only text ads..."

Don't get mad a me please. I didn't understand your first post at all. You are jumping into something and another from out of the blue.

Did you check no flash ad's in configuration under general?

Sorry for my bad english, I'm Hungarian...
Where can I check that Flash ads are enabled? (But there are no flash ads - as I saw, just image ads)

EDIT: Do you mean "Allow video and image formats for ads"?
