Guest Only Forum

Post by Morgan on September 16th 2007, 6:58 pm

Hey.

I was trying to make a forum which only guests could see to encourage them to register on my forum. But the current settings don't allow me to do so. So I was wondering if any of you guys and girls think it should be enabled. If possible.

I apologise if this has already been suggested.

Hi Morgan, I do believe you can create a forum for guests only to view and post in through the admin panel. I may be mistaken, not 100% sure. But just like creating a regular forum on your board~ just go into the permissions for that guest forum and modify it accordingly. I have thought about this before for my forums as well. Wink

Hey Neesa.

Yeah I had a look earlier and when I select guest only, all of the boxes get selected. I also saw somewhere else that this couldn't be done, so I thought I'd suggest this.

It might be a bug, I dont know Wink

Oh ok..I hope you get it all sorted out then sweety. I'd like to know how it turns out. If the guest forum is a success for your board. I thought about doing this as well but decided against it in the end, in fear it would keep members from accually registering to my forum instead, ya know? Let me know how it works for you. keep me posted and I may just decide to do this on my forums as well. :thumright:

Edited: I voted yes just in case this wasn't a feature available already..lol

I donít understand you Morgan! If you make a forum that guests can see it why would you want to hide it from your members ore moderators, it just doesnít make sense. If you want to encourage your guests to join your forum i suggest you create a blogger.

This forum could be used to ask people to register and give them a link to it. Then once they register, they can then use the forum once they registered.

I was thinking of having this forum at the top of my forum, asking people to join and pointing them to the registration. Then they could access the whole forum.

I've seen this on many forums and I like the idea.

It could also be used for other things, just be imaginative.

Obviously if you don't use the it but think you might later, it would be there, handy for when need be.

Hope that helps Smile

i use a table on mine...does the trick Smile you can make all the forums members only, so they wont see that, but because the table is in the homepage configuration, it will be on show to the guests. I cant repost the code i used though as it needs the creators consent, but if you do a bit of searching, say for a 3 in 1 news box, you may come across what i mean....

You can also activate the portan than create a forum and direct it to show in your portal so you can put anything for your guests to read before they go to index home.
