CNAME pointing not working, could anyone advise me please.
Hello Everyone,
This is my first post, I have tried to look for a solution to the problem from the search feature but I don’t seem to fine one exactly like mine. I have recently registered my domain name with www.uk-cheapest.co.uk. When I used there web forwarding with masked redirection it was fine but all my forum links to external sites also stayed the same as my url. Like if I clicked on a link from my site to take me to pizza.com for example the site I land on would still say my domain. Anyway I asked my provider to change the cname record for me as shown how to do in the personalised name section. They told me that I have to wait up to 24 hours for this to take affect it has now gone passed this amount of time and the url is still not working. They told me it can take up to 72 hours for the change to take affect. This time has also now passed and still when i enter the domain in the personalized section this is the result I get
Error
The supplied domain name is not well configured
You have no CNAME redirecting to : happi6forum.4rumer.net
This is the message I received from the company
Thank you for contacting UKC.
We have applied the CNAME "happi6forum.4rumer.net" to domain "happi6forum.com" as requested.
Please allow up to 24 hours for the modifications to propagate the global DNS. If you experience problems after this time do not hesitate to contact us.
The company do not provide a section where i can do this myself and to be hones ti don’t know how to . could someone please tell me what to do here as it is starting to drive me simple.
Thanks in advance for any help and advice
Kind Regards
Pearse

Re: CNAME pointing not working, could anyone advise me please.
Im not sure if i know how this cname thing works
This is what it says int he back office of the forum personalised name.
When you choose the sub-domain which you wish to use on your forum (forum.my_domain, for example, is a sub-domain of my_domain), you have to create the corresponding CNAME entrance in the DNS administrator of your domain: a CNAME entrance allows to point an url towards the other one in a transparent way. in this way, you can link forum.my_domain to adress.my_forum.
Ok my personal domain name is www.happi6forum.com so does that mean my cname woudl have to be forum.happi6forum.com ?
So if i was using my domain as the example it owudl be liek this
# In the generally entitled field "source", "origin", or "alias" enter the prefix of sub-domain (i.e. "Forum" if you want to use the sub-domain forum.happi6forum.com).
# In the generally entitled field "destination" or " target host ", enter the original url of your forum, http://happi6forum.4rumer.net.
Is that what the hosting company shoudl have done as they said We have applied the CNAME "happi6forum.4rumer.net" to domain "happi6forum.com" as requested. To me tyhis looks wrong and what I have written above look right.
Can anyone tell me if i am right?

I don't see a PM option for typlo.
This is what I have tried so far if anyone. All resulted in an error that the CNAME is not configured correctly. Each change I have waited a couple of days to make sure it has replicated to the servers. Right now if I go to www.gardenstateatvriders.com it still goes to the old page and I just put a link on there to forward to my forumotion page til this is straightened out.
Host | address |
www | gardenstateatvriders.forumotion.com |
www. | gardenstateatvriders.forumotion.com |
gardenstateatvriders.com. | gardenstateatvriders.forumotion.com. |
gardenstateatvrider. | forumotion.com |
If anyone can help It would be greatly appreciated.
I have been fighting with this for weeks now.

Re: CNAME pointing not working, could anyone advise me please.
all of those above will not work, why? first because you tried using www second gardenstateatvriders is I believe your own domain.
CNAME is used popularly with sub domaining emails,
ex. your domain mail is mail.gardenstateriders.com but the original mail server address is my.webmail.com or my.hoarde.com.
How to fix it?
use new.gardenstateatvriders.com as Host, then use your board address as address.
Dont forget to validate through your admin panel.
*you can change the new, the only point here is, you should create a subdomain if your going to use CNAME.
remember it will only redirect, type new.gardenstateatvriders.com and it will redirect you to your board address, what will be shown in the url will be your board address of course, because you only did a CNAME redirection, many expects to see their sub domains sticking up on the URL, forgetting it is a redirection.

thanks for the reply
how do I go about getting it to be the address and not just a redirect? thats really what I want in the end.
Re: CNAME pointing not working, could anyone advise me please.
I'm having the exact same problem. I do understand it's a redirect and am using a "sub domain" name. My provider even has a great do-it-yourself area where you can create CNAMES all day long. But every time I do it, I get back to Forumotion and and it says:
Error
The supplied domain name is not well configured
Your CNAME must redirect to : motorcityburning.forumotion.net
My forum is motorcityburning.forumotion.net
My domain is motorcityburning.org
So I'm using:
forum.motorcityburning.forumotion.net for the CNAME and
www.motorcityburning.org for the domain
(and I've tried ever other variation of those; with "www's" without, etc, etc.)
Can anyone help??? This is so frustrating!!
