Would like a new window to open when link is clicked!

Post by Sugah Sim on June 19th 2010, 9:49 pm

Please forgive me if this has been posted elsewhere. I've searched, but can not find the answer.

Previously, my members click on urls (such as Mediafire, eg), and a new window opens, so they are not taken away from my forum.
Today, for some reason, I notice when I test my download (Mediafire) links, it takes me AWAY from my site.
I have not changed anything in the admin panel and have never used any special html codes to have a new window open.
What could have changed?
And is there a place in the admin panel I can go to choose "new window open when link clicked"? If so, I've looked but can not find it.

I'd appreciate any and all help, as always.

Thank you, in advance!

Sincerely,
Sugah

I am referring to urls in a post that links my members to my downloads (namely, Mediafire).
Previously, a new window for Mediafire would open up. Now, when someone clinks on that link, in particular, it takes them away from Sugah's Place and to Mediafire.

I do not use html coding and this has never been an issue before.
I do not know if something has happened...a change has been made to forumotion...but now, a new window is no longer opening for links in posts.

when posting a link just add this ( target="_blank")

E.g: [URL="http://www.google.com" target="_blank"]Google[/URL]

Let me try it. I think I have html disabled. I may have to enable it, if I must change all the links to downloads.

I am hoping there is an easier way in the admin panel to do this, as I have literally HUNDREDS of download links.

Thank you for your assistance. If it does not work, I will edit this post.

Okay, I tried that code you gave, and perhaps with my type of forum it doesn't work, even WITH html enabled.
I used to run a regular website and have used target="_blank" countless times, but it does not see to work at Sugah's Place.

Back to the old drawing board...and thanks, again!
If anyone knows if there is something I must change in my admin panel, please alert me! Thanks!

Code:
<a href="http://www.quackit.com/html/html_help.cfm" target="_blank">HTML Help</a>

This code works.

Once I switched EDITOR MODE in a post, I could see that the html works.

Mr. Mario, can you tell me why a window is no longer opening when my members click on the download links?
Why are they being taken away from my forum all of a sudden, when this was never an issue before?
I would truly appreciate your feedback.

I don't want to have to repost hundreds of links, especially since I am just recovering from a recent hacking/hijacking.

Thank you so much!

Please forgive me if this is considered double posting.

Upon returning from a recent trip, I noticed my Mediafire urls are not linking directly to my downloads. There has been an extra page, which requires an extra click for downloading from Sugah's Place added.

If there is a thread on these changes, would someone be so kind to point me towards it? I would like to read up on what I have missed this past week.

Thank you for any help and info you can provide me with.
I will need to send a newsletter to my members to let them know about the changes in downloading asap!

Sincerely,
S
