Go Daddy Domain How to make it my forum's main address?

Post by xgtb on June 26th 2010, 5:18 am

Hello I was wondering on how I could get my domain that I have bought off go-daddy.com be my url throughout my whole forum? So far, I just have it where it forwards me to the portal. It still takes me though to the lame long link e.g. www.lame.forumotion.com I am clueless on how to make my domain remove the whole forumotion url with my new domain name e.g. www.lame.us Do I need a tranfer code from typlo or do I need to set somethings up? PM'd him anyway just in case? Help? bwi

A CNAME is an alias for a host record. CNAMEs allow you to have more than one DNS name for a host record.

CNAME records point back to an A record. So if you change the IP address of the A record, all your CNAME records pointed to that record automatically follow the new IP of the A record. The alternative solution is to have multiple A records, but then you would have multiple places to change the IP address which increases the chances of error. Using CNAMEs makes your DNS data easier to manage. The most common CNAMEs are subdomains "www" and "ftp".
To Create a CNAME Record

1. Log in to your Account Manager.
2. In the My Products section, click Domain Manager.
3. Click the domain name for which you want to create a CNAME record.
4. In the Total DNS section, click the Total DNS Control hyperlink.
5. Click Add New CNAME Record.
6. Complete the following:

Enter an Alias Name
The subdomain for which you want to create the record.
Points to Host Name
Your domain name.
TTL
The time increment for which the server should cache the information.

This his how i Set it up according to them
*using fake name just as an example but it is still how I put it*
Alias:www.lame.forumotion.com
Points to Host Name: lame.us
TTL: 1/2 Hour

I go to verify lame.us and get
Error

The supplied domain name is not well configured
Your CNAME must redirect to : lame.forumotion.com
What..? I also tried putting www.lame.us still no luck what am I doing wrong?

I have another problem that I have no solution for.. my domain name is now asking for a name and pass? I actually need to log in for something. But I am not sure why its there if all it does is forward the URL? Is it getting hacked or something?
