Links to download sites don't work. Forumotion is working on avoiding illegal content through these links.

Re: HELP links not working in my forum
I think it is not very decent the way Forumotion handles this; all links to downloadsites don't work anymore. For some boards this means years of work down the drain. Every link ever posted looks like a mess now. As if all files hosted by 'download sites', as Senkat calls them, contain illegal content ... You could have your vacation pics uploaded in a folder to Rapidshare and now Forummotion 'destroys' the link you posted at a forum because some people share illegal content through some filehosts? It's ridicilous, now my users & moderators have to repair hundreds of posts, that look like crap since this uncalled for move.
Senkat's reaction to chechiarts remark shows how little Forumotion (or at least Senkat who represents them) think(s) of their 'customers'. Thanks, that's very nice. We'll remember that!
BTW @ chechiarts: just put your downloadlinks in any new posts in between the

Re: HELP links not working in my forum
Let me clear my stand.
Its not my stand, thats forumotion's policy on discontinuing the links & trying to avoid it.
My comments were not in a rude way, rather a way so that the user can do whatever he feels is right for the future of his forum. I know so many years of work can go down the drain due to this, but its not my owned forum where i can take decisions.

I'm sorry but this is just PATHETIC.
Now all the links are showing strange code. thousands of links that don't work and threads completely ruined.
Completely unprofessional. And without notice too.

Re: HELP links not working in my forum
Right Sanket, I'm reading between your lines, and I understand that you think this is rather undecent too.
It's an unprecedented breach of trust by Forumotion, I've never seen this done before by any forumhosts, free of charge or not.
It sure feels like a break of the service agreements Forumotion and I made at the foundation of the forum, and indeed, totally unannounced too.
And all this because , for instance at my forum, the rapidshare links might lead to illegal content (eventhough Rapidshare like many file hosts, has got his own anti illegal content regulations and should - at least in theory - link very little of such files) again I'll have to say: it's indecent and totally uncalled for.
I hope the Forumotion owners will see the errors of their ways, reverse this decision and try and find a less rigorous measure to prevent the spreading of illegal content (if they still think that responsibility is theirs).
For now, I'm extremely dissapointed in Forumotion and it's service.

Re: HELP links not working in my forum
This has annoyed me too, our group has been open for just over 1 year..
We are a paint shop pro, tag , chat and tube group..
We make signature tags and have requeste genuine permission from various artists across the world to use their art legally, and we also have Paid permission which cost alot of money..
We PAY for our domain name each year and have just updated it a few months ago for another year..
We rely heavily on being able to upload our tube zips to 4shared and post in our group so our members can just click them and go download the art for their use.. We have gone so far as to make sure the artists know this and are happy with it..We are extremely copyright compliant with regards to graphics, music or any other data we have permission to use and nothing breaches any terms of use..
To take away the html hyperlink coding is one thing but then not provided us with a suitable alternative when we PAY for a domain to do this is not really fair..
You say to do whatever, we came to forumotion because it had all the utlities we needed to open a fun group of friends with the same hobby, before these so called security changes everything was fine and worked very well, months of hard work are now down the drain because each artists link (and we have almost 500 artists) has to now be changed and to highlight it and use [code] which gives an ugly large box and members still have to copy and paste this code into their browser.. our artists area is locked down and passworded to protect the artists images..
So is this going to be the normally thing now, because i can assure you i wont be to impressed if i now go through all our artists changing things and then something else changes!!!!!
I agree with Ras, this is extremely disappointing..

And btw, I've already added lots and lots of links...
I can't modify it to uploaded.to again

Re: HELP links not working in my forum
And by the way, as we are a fully copyright compliant group we give credit to the artists, authors, song writers etc, when using avatars that belong to warner bros, disney etc you do realise that is illegal to do because warner and disney would sue your butts off big time.
Avatars such as the garfield, and games anime cant be used..
I know because i have written to disney head office and got a nice letter informing me such use is illegal..
So while you are trying to be security concious and stopping those who know the law and use it properly, maybe you should look at the graphics you use as avatars and find out if the original artist gave you permission to use their images in such away.
Then you can come back to me and say ''yeah ok your right'' and reinstall the links to allowing 4shared again!!
Sorry if you think thats rude but we take pride in our group and make sure that everything uploaded or used is legal and we can give credit..

Re: HELP links not working in my forum
So now, apparently Forumotion has become an unreliable forum host. If this remains this way I'll predict 90% of the users will change host and virtually none will set up a new forum with F.
This decision has spoiled the look of our forum, the posts and the fun of our 1100+ users who haven't even done anything wrong.
In Holland we call this 'shooting a canon to kill musquitoes'. An awful lot of collateral damage.
If this stays like this I think Forumotion will soon be done with

Re: HELP links not working in my forum
I think all of us here know what's really going on.
We know how to use the proper code/s, because many of us have been for well over a year or more now.
Forum Motion is basically saying - "We don't care. Let all of the sites who have downloading close shop and go to other forum hosts."
That's sad too, because most of us are in compliance and not providing illegal files as our downloads. Most of us are creative people who enjoy sharing our work.
To completely disable the ability for us to use Media Fire, 4Shared - and other file hosting services here - and without notice - is unconscionable.
I know I came to Forum Motion because it was a user friendly place to be. It provided wonderful templates and services for all to use. It allowed many to create communities where people wanted to be. Not so much anymore.
I hope that they will take another look at this choice they've made, and allow us the use of Media Fire, 4Shared, Box and other services so that we're not forced to leave and take the hundreds and thousands of community members with us.
We like it here - but Forum Motion - You're creating an environment that we no longer like and make it impossible to run our forums.

Re: HELP links not working in my forum
this is very very very annoying!
my forum is a place for game developer to show off their own games, they usually host their own created games in mediafire and such sites, but now forumotion block those site
great job, forumotion. really great job!

But how is that going to stop them? O_O I can tell you right now it's not going to work..hate to break the news but there is many ways for people to post those Links... Why are they so concerned about these 3rd Party hosts...not like it's hosted directly on Forumotion's server or anything.
I share live music on my forum, there is nothing illegal about that...

That's no solution. It's all about the major file hosts Megaupload Mediafire rapidshare badongop and so on.
The way Forumotion decides to basically block all their forumowners and forumusers from using these hosts because they think there might be illegal content hosted there is very much like how China or North Korea deal with their citizens. Every normal person could see how wrong that is.
We and our big forum will change host if this doesn't get reversed within a few day and tell all our connected/friend boards to do the same because Forummotion has proven to be an extremely unreliable partner in forum hosting and hosting your forum with them means you might loose content because they change rules halfway if they want to without any warning, users consent a.s.o.
Forumotion: never again!!
What a bunch of Kim Jong Il's !!!!

Re: HELP links not working in my forum
I just visited my forum and it seems the measures were reversed a liitle bit.
The links still won't work directly (first it takes you to a second tab before you can get to the file host) but at least this is a small improvement to the devestation I encountered yesterday.
Can it be that Forumotion actually listens to these complaints?
Congrats if they do! Better turn halfway and keep customers than to persisit in this folly ...
I hope some moderator will tell us soon where we stand right now.

BTW: I had also just reset my board to a backup a few days back in time.
Somehow I hope that has nothing to do with my links - sort of - working right now.
I hope it's because Forumotion has listened to us, not because I found a little loop hole

Re: HELP links not working in my forum
Hello,
The aim has never been to completely stop the links to work, that was actually a bug that's been fixed this morning. And this is and has always been the official Forumotion position. Indeed it would be madness to censor all links, that's not our policy.
It's now working as planned : when you click on a download link, you're simply redirected to a second page where you can access your download link.
Sorry for the inconvenience.
