Log Guest IP Addresses in the ACP

Do you agree with logging guest IP addresses?
Log Guest IP Addresses in the ACP
I am suggesting a feature in the ACP that logs guest IP addresses and how many times that IP visited the site. This is good for statistic purposes for the admins of the site. While i'm away I can see how many people have visited the site accurately (because different IPs mean different locations = being able to see exactly how many different people viewed the site). This also helps me see how many people are really interested in the site based on how many times they visit the site. The overall main purpose of this is to have better control over watching the sites traffic and everything going on with that traffic.
Example chart:
etc...
*Note- This is not really important to have. I am only suggesting it because it seems like a neat helpful idea.
**EDIT - I have added another column to the chart that displays if they are a registered member or not as well as gives the username that shares that IP.
***EDIT - I have added another column to the chart that displays the date. The date column could have a 'Sort' button so you can ascend or descend dates by order from most recent or the most oldest dates.
Example chart:
Counter | IP Address | Times visited | Registered Member | Date |
1 | 192.168.1.1 | 1 | Yes - username | Mon. July 19th 2010 |
2 | 192.168.1.2 | 2 | Yes -username | Tues. July 20th 2010 |
3 | 192.168.1.3 | 4 | No | Tues. July 20th 2010 |
4 | 192.168.1.4 | 10 | Yes - username | Wed. July 21st 2010 |
5 | 192.168.1.5 | 3 | No | Wed. July 21st 2010 |
*Note- This is not really important to have. I am only suggesting it because it seems like a neat helpful idea.

Why? I don't want people to be able to see my IP just because I visited their site.

Just a reminder, people already can see your IP when you visit their site. Anywhere on the internet. However its not logged.LH Justin wrote:Why? I don't want people to be able to see my IP just because I visited their site.

I know, but why would you log it? I just think some things are best kept private.SPADEZ wrote:Just a reminder, people already can see your IP when you visit their site. Anywhere on the internet. Re: Log Guest IP Addresses in the ACP
It doesnt say how many visits your site received day by day. It also doesnt show how often those IPs visit the site.

Re: Log Guest IP Addresses in the ACP
Well, I guess it would be nice to see how many visits your forum has had on a certain date, but I don't won't people to be able to track certain IPs.SPADEZ wrote:It doesnt say how many visits your site received day by day. It also doesnt show how often those IPs visit the site.

Where would guests receive these PMs at? And why would you want to PM a guest in the first place?angels77 wrote:be good to be able to message guests as well

Re: Log Guest IP Addresses in the ACP
Yes! Sometimes we do need to know the IP adress of members that aren't online or haven't posted.

On the Who's Online block you can get the I.P of guests
In general, if guests contact people on the forum, you can expect they'll return to see the answer, so this shouldn't be an issue

Re: Log Guest IP Addresses in the ACP
Actually that has nothing to do with the topic. While you can see the IP of guest, it doesnt log it. You'll only see those IPs if your monitoring the site 24/7. Hence the title of the topic "Log guest IPs" so it keeps track automatically.Caihlem wrote:On the Who's Online block you can get the I.P of guests

Re: Log Guest IP Addresses in the ACP
Umm... but what would you need them for?
I'd only need an I.P if a guest posted, which already gives me access to his I.P

Indeed, I'm blind before me age
If it's "just" for statistics, then I'm not on the same line as you I'm affraid
Sure it's nice to know accurately, but for me the only important figures are the number of active members and daily log-ins

Like I said, it's not really that important of a suggestion, just a suggestion to better monitor the traffic of the site.

So don't watch what?
If you want to communicate with Guests, all you need to do is make a forum with posting set to Guests and call it Guests so they know where to go
