Solved How To Restrict New Members To Certain Forums

Post by patiogardener on July 26th 2010, 7:32 am

I am really desperate now. Have looked everywhere to try & solve this problem. Typlo has written an excellent How-to titled Auto-Subscribe To Groups in the FAQs. Was able to easily follow this up until I reached the Forum Permissions Control part. The area where the admin (me) can check or uncheck permissions is greyed out though the ticks are there but cannot be be unchecked.

What I wish to do is to limit new members to one section of my forum until they post twice. I have set up groups for this. One is for New Members &, the one to which they would move to automatically after the two posts, Full Members. Have had members register, but not post, so they can access areas of the forum not available to guests. I would like to try & prevent this.

What is most frustrating about this is that I have usually been able to work most things out for myself & Forumotion does make everything so easy to follow. Could it be a phpBB3 quirk?? Have tried both IE & Chrome to see if that was the cause but they were the same.

You will need to create a members group. Only then that thing shall work.

Thanks Sanket but I already have & the relevant area of the Forum Permissions is still greyed out. I did try just calling it the members group instead of new members. Still no go.

Remove all the check boxes for member and then it should work.

Thanks MrMario. Shall try that now. Was a bit worried I might stuff it up for the rest of us if I did that. Embarassed

EDIT. Yes, that did work. Many thanks MrMario. It also removes guests as well. Can't seem to recheck them. Don't know if that is a problem re attracting new members, though. Rolling Eyes

If you remove a right for a member to see something that right would be removed to guest.
