actually there is a way.

but you are useing invision. if you were useing phpbb2 or punnbb
you can take out the (join in chat) displayed in the who's online section of the forums home page index page.

then i can give you a code to add in a forums description that only the groups you allow permissions to the forum would see the chat box. or you could also use the code to place on a html page and have the link in the forums description with the permissions set for that group the same way. but then you would have to tell all members of the group not to share the html link with any members that are not in the group.. so you would be better off haveing it a foprums description..

like this over here on my test forum.
you will see a forum called (chat in description example) and the chat box in the forums description you cant miss. Now you will also still see the join in chat at the bottom of the page.
but thats only because i dint remove it from the template yet.

see you can even do this with invision.. but the problem is when the chat box is activated it is still going to show join in chat at the bottom of the index page of the who's online section.

so you would have to take that out of the template so other members do no0t see it.. but that can only be done with phpbb2 or punnbb version
