Solved Maximum Posts for Group

Post by lethia on August 23rd 2010, 6:34 pm

I have a new members group that makes it so new members 0 posts can only view the introduction & staff notification forums but i want to have members removed from the group once they make their introduction post. (I just did it manually but was unsure if it was an option for it to happen automatically.)

thank you in advance for your help

There is no automatic way to remove members from a group.

Perhaps you could make another group which can view, & participate in, all the forum after they have made X number of posts. The new members should progress there, automatically, after they have made the required posts. I have made my minimum posts 2 for automatic entry to this group.

Hello Smile
When editing the forum's permissions you can make the second group capable of seeing the remainder of your forums.
Even if the members are in the default group, they should still be able to see the remainder of the forums (if they are in the second group- i.e have made 1+ posts).
Like KingofSports said, there is no way to automatically remove a member from a group.

Click on to Advanced Mode & you should have more options re excluding certain groups from certain areas of your forum.

If you have already tried this it still may be worthwhile looking at all of the permissions again in case you missed something. Don't forget to check Save for each action.

Think I may have found the solution. I notice in your screenshot above, directly below Guests you still have Members ticked. Thanks to MrMArio I found that you need to uncheck the members permissions, as well as guests, in the forums you wish to change permissions. Then you will be able to select or deselect in them.

Sounds scary but believe me it works.

That's ok. Thanks, MrMario, too. His advice stopped me from going insane (almost) when I was trying to do the same, as you are doing, with my forum. :wouhou:
