Like/Dislike System

Post by Guest on August 23rd 2010, 11:28 pm

First topic message reminder :

We have the reputation system which is fine, however we cant really modify it at all. I use phpBB 3 and I cant do nothing with it but change the bar image that appears when you give the post a positive or negative rep. Also we have no visual counter to show how many people repped the post. So here is where my suggestion comes in:

  • Add a thumbs up & thumbs down icon near the top corner of the post where the rep system is.
  • Add a counter to see how many people voted thumbs up or thumbs down.
  • Add a statistic profile field that tells us how many likes and dislikes this user has received.
  • Here is an example image:
So what you all think about this? Mostly all sites and forums all over the internet are implementing this feature and it would be nice if forumotion got the same system, best of all we can enable or disable this feature if you so choose. Smile

Just like facebook? YAY! I'm totally voting YES! (Maybe you can choose the button image/text instead of a boring + plus sign)

Clogs it up? But... you could always switch to the "Simple" side of the Admin panel.

As I mentioned above, this feature can be turned off and the images u use can be customized. Depending on how u design your forum, it might look clogged up, however that would be your own fault.

Thanks for voting Smile
Also that problem can be avoided quite easily. Just disallow members to edit their post after a set amount of time or create some rules about it and re-enforce it by lowering warning levels if they violate those rules. In case those are small problems that only people will no lives, flamers and spammers will do.

But have it so it's optional for the creator of the thread, whether or not they want their thread to be open for judgement.

Thats cool that you modified your rep system. However, you use phpBB2... How about people who use phpBB3 as mentioned in the OP? You don't agree this suggestion is useful to the rest of us?

You cannot modify the templates using phpBB3.

You can't modify the "+" & "-" using CSS either. Only the bar that appears after you click the "+" or "-". Again, this was mentioned in the OP as something we cannot really modify at all ourselves. Unless we are allowed to edit the templates using phpbb3.

Facebook was only used as an example of this suggestion. If this feature is implemented, it doesn't mean forumotion is following facebook. It means forumotion is keeping up-to-date with a trending feature on the majority of all websites, blogs and forums now a days.

Be aware that you cannot do exactly what this topic is suggesting with that turtorial. Also you cannot perform this if u are using phpbb3. It's not the same.

Post by Guest on October 26th 2010, 6:12 pm

Voted YES, with reservations.

I don't care whether the display is +/- or thumbs up/down or whatever. I do care that all we can can see is a percentage of +/- and not the individual votes. forumotion, you have this info already -- you're using it to create the percentage! So how about putting the count of + and - votes in the tooltip that's displayed when you hover over the vertical bar? It would take me about 90 seconds to add this feature. Which means it would take one of your techs about 20 minutes. Smile

I also like the idea of a statistic profile field, as long as it can be disabled.
