Template editor

Post by useme on October 8th 2007, 9:44 am

Since phpbb uses a templating system to display its content, I think a template editor would be useful for all of us who want a different style than the suggested ones...

Now someone whould say that for security reasons can't be done etc... blah blah

well, actually wrong!!!!

the tempalting system can be made to allow only specific tags to be implemented to the system

For example if i want to put someware the image of the header to apear dynamicly, then on the html of the template i would put a tag such as {header_img}.

This is the same thing as all the blogging systems use, (i havent used them but i think tha same is happening whith the forumotion free blogs)

phobb on the other hand has quite a few files .tpl (for phpbb2) and .html(phpbb3) for its template... For starters i would suggest only a header and footer files to be able for us to edit, an maybe some more if the technicians have time to build!!!

The editor could be the same as the html module in the administration panel! Where we could have an editor for the header and an editor for the footer! maybe later or from the beggining we could have one editor for each and every template file! I dont think it is neccesery but why not.

For preventing malfunctions of the forum from wrong edits, there could be a button to revert each file to each original state as it is with the css editing thing!

We can't use proper phpBB3 or phpBB2 styles as forumotions software is different to them, so it would display different and cause all sorts of issues.

Yes they have a templating system, but it is incompatable with phpBB non-forumotion adapted themes.

so???? this is quite irrelevant with what i am saying! the phpbb its just an example i could say joomla or whatever!!!

i wrote phpbb because this is the system used here! or my eyes cannot read right at the bottom of the page!

now what templete the tecnhitians use it obviously up to them! my sudgestion is just to be able to edit it!

ah yes you can then,
you download the theme, upload the images one by one to webhosting somewhere, then add in the images, change the colours and viola!

Theres a tutorial floating around somewhere with how to do it...

I think a template editor is quite difficult to realize. However, a template using "<div>" blocks of which the position and other properties can be specified through the CSS stylesheet would be nice. Wink

Don't shout at me, please. I do understand you without the exclamation marks.
The only thing I'm saying is that it might be difficult to realize a full fool-proof template editor and I'm giving an alternative. Nothing less, nothing more. Wink
