Solved New Admin needs basic help

Post by enuenu on September 5th 2010, 4:17 pm

I just created my first forum (free version). I am Admin.

1) Do I create another username for myself or do I operate as Admin when posting my own topics and posts?

2) Do you have to have moderators? I don't have the time to moderate every post.

3) I plan on removing the need for moderation by restricting who can register as a user of the forum. How do I do this? It is for a small community group and we all know each other.

Thanks.

1) Its upto you.

2) Yes you can, since you don't have much time.

3) Users & groups>user Options
New accounts activation
Admin
Save.

1) You can change your username from admin to which ever you like. Go to Admin CP -> Users -> Search users -> Click Admin -> Change name

2) No, but moderators are helpful.

3) You can make it invite only, or just remove members you dont want.

Thanks, I'll give your directions a try. The forum is currently "locked". Does that mean nobody can join at the moment? If so, how do I 'unlock" it? I intend on limiting membership to people who have certain email addresses. How do I make it invite only? I just sent email invites to the relevant people.

I followed MrMario's tutorial but I still see an icon (circle with a padlcok) at the bottom of the screen that has text next to it saying "Forum is Locked"

Those icons are legends. To tell you what to look for if a section is locked or not. This doesn't mean your forum is locked.
