Need help to keep forum 'Private'
Hello!
I run a group on Facebook where a new member MUST be approved. I want to offer this forum to these members ONLY, and NOT to the general public.. In other words, if they are a member of my Facebook group, then they can come here..
REASON: Its a US Military group and I strive to keep them safe... Sometimes, we speak of ships, stations, ports, etc, and it is something that MUST stay between us...
I am still new to all this and I just cant seem to find what I am looking for to accomplish this safety 'net'..
Also, I am having issues logging on thru Facebook..
Any help would be appreciated!!!
Thanks!!!! Joan

If you want safety a free forum host isn't the safest. Your own domain isn't safe also. There are always people which can get through the secuirity. You better shouldn't talk about military operations.

Re: Need help to keep forum 'Private'
You can make your forum private but it will take up quite a bit of your time & will involve you learning how to navigate around your Administration Panel.
Firstly, go to AP>Users & Groups>Groups>Groups Administration>Create new group. Here you can create a group to place all your members in. Click Save.
Then you go to General>Forums>Categories & Forums & for each forum click the x/tick. Doing this will take you to where you can change the Permissions, for that forum, to be viewed only by your members. To achieve this you must uncheck Guests & Members wherever you see them ticked. These will all be above the little boxes with green ticks & red crosses. Do not worry about unchecking Members in this area. The ticks that really matter for your purposes are below those little boxes. If you go to the Advanced Permissions you will have even more control over who can see what. Click Save after doing this & repeat for every forum.
Lastly, you can go to Forum Promotion in General & check no for Forum Promotion & delete Metatags in the Search Engine section. In other words just do the opposite, in Forum Promotion, to those of us who wish to promote our forums.
