Solved Embedding forums in other sits.

Post by UK Mat Surfers on September 19th 2010, 11:41 pm

Hello there.

I run http://ukmatsurfers.forumotion.com and I'm currently developing a full site in which I want to incorperate the forum. I've managed this with an i-frame but it's not ideal as it includes the banner.

Here's my question: Is it possible to embed my forum in the site without the headers (ie the banner). I want to keep the banner on the forumation.com version so that people finding the forum via google still have it there, but have withouth the banner on the site as I have the same banner on there. Obviously, I don't want 2 banners!!! Also, I dont want to lose the nav buttons because otherwise people will get on the forum and be stuck there!

The other option would be to post the nav buttons as an announcement. Can that be done? (ie by pasting the HTML code for the buttons?). I have them running under the banner at the mo at present.

To illustrate, here's a blank page from my site:

Here's how the I-Frame looks:

You see my problem!

Complex question and I'm no whizz kid so any answers saying "do this and put it there" are much appreciated.

Cheers

G

What site are you trying to insert your forum into? And, why are you attempting to do this?

Try this code:
Code:

<iframe src ="FORUM LINK" width="100%" height="100%">
</iframe>

Next time use the search function Wink. I've answered this question many times Smile.

To the best of my knowledge you can't take one forum page and not have a header on it.

One thing to do is not put a header on the web site page. Use your iframe. Then the creative part would be fitting the web site nav bar in so it looks nice.

My forum and web site aren't as similar looking as yours, but I just put 'forum' link in the web page nav bar, and 'web site' link in the forum nav bar. It works just fine. You could add a js pop-up to alert folks that they are leaving the web site and going to the forum, or visa versa. Or, have those links open in a new window. Or, have the web site link open your portal-use it as a splash page to explain.

Bless ya.

I think I may have to do that. It is a shame though. Is it possible to put the Nav Bar from my website into the announcement bar as HTML code? That would do the job. Sounds tricky.

My website isn't online yet.

Once again thanks for your help so far. Very much appreciated!!!

I've got my navbar up so have a look:

forum.ukmatsurfers.org

One last question. Is it possible to make the links leave the forum and open the new page in the same window, rather than opening a new window?

Not a massive propblem but that's my last thing.

Bless ya's

Try using "_self" instead of "_blank" in your code.
