Solved Relationship Between Forum and Group Permisions

Post by Ascent September 29th 2010, 5:42 pm

Is there a Tutorial out there or can someone give me a rundown how each of these permission sections affect each other? I am not understanding it.

Permissions are a way how you set each members/moderators abilities to view/post certain forums.

ya but that does not tell me what the difference of setting them via group panel or via forum and category panel. does one dominate the other or is there a difference? Just don't understand why there is two places to set them and they look completely different. Need to know how they affect each other.

yeah so then you can set the groups permissions there.
admin group is default permissions, if you have someone in the admin group then they have all permissions for the forum and acp.. accept template editing or forums address change.. and a admin can not change the email or pass word of the founding admin as well.

i mean it's pretty much self explanatory on how to set the permissions.
You just check off the permissions you want for what ever groups or individual members if you have them in there own hidden or color group.

Ya I guess that is why I am confused. you can set the permissions for groups for the different forums in the forums section so not sure why there is another area in each group to set permissions for the forums. Guess I will just used the forum permission area to do the whole thing and not worry about the group area.

If both areas where layed out the same I would see that they both do the same thing....but they are not like that the group area just has check boxes that say allow under normal and mod options. Very vague....in the forum / category area there is much more specific options so don't know what happens when I do stuff in that area. What hapens when I then go to a specific group permision area and select allow does it change what I did in forum/categories permision area?

all the group permissions will do is allow the group to moderate/ be moderators of the specific forum that is checked off. you dont want that.

other then that. The group permissions will just show the status of the permissions.. you want to set your permissions by the forums like i have explained above then you will be fine Smile
