Solved Remove the limit of 1000 characters in signatures

Post by Dark Fox on September 29th 2010, 9:18 pm

My suggestion is quite simple:

I would like to have the character limitation in signatures removed.

At the moment the limit of characters is 1000.
But because I like graphically supported signatures with all kind of links and buttons I haven't got enough space to fit everything in.
I think it would be better if there was an option for admins to set a limit of characters their selves.
By doing this an admin has full control about how many characters are allowed.

By setting the default value at 1000 there won't be any change for anybody who doesn't change the amount of characters.

- If you agree with me and would like to see editable limitations of characters at signatures, vote Yes.
- If you disagree with me and want to keep the signature limitations like they are now, vote No.

Greetz,
Dark Fox.

Well, first, it''s 2000..

And, i think the limit is there because of the DataBase, they don't have unlimited space, you know..

So, i'll be waiting with my vote.

Oh sorry my bad, I missed the point it went to 2000.

And about the space, also true, haven't thought about that yet.
But I think those extra characters won't have a lot effect on the webspace needed.
It's the same as posting a few more posts.

an extra 1k characters for example?

The problem with this is, say there is 10 users on every forum that forumotion has that would use the full 3k characters (or close to it)

Then think about the 10s of thousands of forums forumotion hosts.

This is a big number.

yea thats true BUT,

Think of all the codes that are needed on a forum: codes in the templates, and in the templates you can't see as forum owner, those all together contain over a billion characters and each and every forum has them so when you look at those amounts then those little thousands of characters extra aren't that many at all.

Another reason for the limit is so people cant have 100 (exaggeration of course) pictures linked in their signature.

I am able to squeeze in 6 link and a sigbar into mine, that without tinyurl.

What else do you want to put in your sig?

We just updated 500 to 1000 and you want another update? I don't think its needed. If you know the little urls like tinyurl.com/hd8dk they you won't have a problem.

Just an example, MrMario used bit.ly, look what he's made! It's a pure, massive block of information tongue

I'd say no. I don't think we need to update the limit of characters in a sig from 1000 to 2000.

Because of the fact I found out you can shorten your links on a specialized website I don't need the extra characters anymore.

Please remove this topic.
It's useless.
