For this to work you need to either make the image itself transparent in photoshop or gim etc. or for some browsers (does not work with IE or Opera) add
opacity:0.your-number ;
to the class for the image you are making transparent.

Yes, you can have transparent background.
Please navigate to Admin CP > Display > Colors > CSS
Add this code there ans submit...

.bodyline {
background-color: transparent;
background-image: none;
}

He wants that his body background should be visible through the forum. My code will do the same. It will make the bodyline color transparent and remove the image, if any.
