Faster Server
Faster Servers in different Countrys (not only the USA)
Our servers are only in the United States.
So our forums in the United States are also loaded very quickly (less than a minute).
But in Europe, such as England or Germany or France our forums server load slowly (about three minutes).
The whole could be changed WITHOUT COSTS! It would only take a second server in Europe, where all the forums from Europe to it.
A little comparison:
This support forum is loaded in 3.5 minutes Germany. But if I viewed the United States, it is loaded in only 1.5 Minten. This is only the half.
Unfair to all Europeans, right?

No, but the Servers were in the USA. Forumotion could make one Server in Europe and one Server in the USA.Darren1 wrote:Well, tomorrow, we are getting new servers
So were the Servers for the Countrys faster.
Re: Faster Servers in different Countrys (not only the USA)
There are already special servers in Dallas for our USA Users, and some on France, for our European users
I don't see the point in this, a 1/2 second is nothing, it's not like the world is about to complode.

No, that isnt right. All Servers were in Dallas. My too. And Im from Germany.Darren1 wrote:There are already special servers in Dallas for our USA Users, and some on France, for our European users

And, for Example: my Forum from USA:0,9sec. My Forum from my Country (Germany): 2,9sec. And thats pretty slow..
Re: Faster Servers in different Countrys (not only the USA)
I assure you, there are servers in France, how else would the techs physically access them?
I think I'm asking the wrong question; WHY do you want a faster server?
I mean, their VERY fast as it is, their not designed for gaming, hence the slower speed, not that 0.9 Second is very slow, it is VERY fast (it takes 1.5 seconds to blink your eye on average)

Re: Faster Servers in different Countrys (not only the USA)
Hello,
But why is this support forum, or the German American or my forum in a forum?
And a Forumotion admin told me that there is no server in France.
There is also software that you can edit the server from other PCs.

Well that is surely correct. Anyways if you want faster servers, then donate to Forumotion. Advertisements pay Forumotion employees, servers, and features. I don't mind any slow servers, I am from the United States, I know others are facing slower servers. However let me point out, a little waiting is nothing, as long as it doesn't take a minute or two you guys don't need to worry about faster servers, trust me.

Re: Faster Servers in different Countrys (not only the USA)
The servers aren't going to be replaced any time soon, we have just had brand new servers installed.
As a indication of speed - Im in London, UK - I'm obviously connecting to the UK/French servers, and I can load all forumotion forums in less then 1 second, infact, I load not just this support forum, buta few of my own forums is aprox 0.5 seconds!
Just so you know, the speed is heavily dependant on YOUR internet connection.
For example, dial up speed compared to high speed broadband. Clearly, the name states the difference is speed which also comes into count. Not just that but the speed purchased from your ISP, and the speed you are sending & receiving from your ISP comes into count. Above all, the most important thing that counts towards speed is a FILTER - both in the Internet Explorer default, and any provided by your chose, or installed with your Antivirus.
I'm sorry, but I highly doubt ForuMotion won't do anything, especially considering they replaced their servers just 2-3 weeks ago!

Re: Faster Servers in different Countrys (not only the USA)
Hi Darren,
You can be Happy to load the pages so fast
I use much load time tools (PingDoms for Example) and test there how fast the Servers are. If I ping to the Server, there would be Errors too.
In this moment my Forums (only the Forum, without Pictures and Javascripts) load 1,98 Minutes.

Voted No. The servers are already fast enough.
Re: Faster Servers in different Countrys (not only the USA)
If its taking over 2 minutes for your forum to load then you got issues with your forum, your browser or your internet lol. Not the servers.

Re: Faster Servers in different Countrys (not only the USA)
When I ping to the Server from the USA, my Forum answer in only 200 ms. This are really fast! And the CSS loads in only 4 ms!!! This is much fast!
But, when I ping to the Server from Germany, the Server answer in 950 ms. And the CSS loads in 500 ms. This is the load time ( 1,4 Minutes) WITHOUT PICTURES..
So the Forums load (without picutes) in 204ms from the USA and in 1,4 Minutes from Europe.. that is a big difference..
You can use this: http://tools.pingdom.com/

Re: Faster Servers in different Countrys (not only the USA)
Honestly, I think your getting your figures wrong. 1.4 Minutes!
If it takes 1.4 Minutes to load a page on your forum... then that is an internet issue... surely you can't mean MINUTES. A server which takes over a minute, in my eyes, is broken
Think about how long a minute is when waiting for a page to load.
10 seconds is a long time to stare at a screen waiting for a page to load, by 30 seconds most people give up, by one minute... people check their internet connection lol...

Re: Faster Servers in different Countrys (not only the USA)
Hmm i was just reading this and i think most of you are right here ,,If some thing takes over 1 minute to get a page up on the intenet Don't The page just time out anyway ?? i know if my page Don't show up in less than 30 sec's it times out and i have to refresh it !
i can get on most site within 0.7 sec's and am well happy with the forum speed in the uk ok some times it can be slow if there is work going on,, like on the servers updates or just over used at some times of the day but for some thing that is free i for one would not ask for more unless i was paying for it. i give what i can to keep FM running but i see it more as a gift for all the good work they do So i VOTE NO sorry no need to spend money on some thing that is not needed in my eyes

Re: Faster Servers in different Countrys (not only the USA)
Yes I have previously prescribed, I did not mean a minute, but a second. Where a second is too slow for the ping to a server. Since the entire board then 2.5 seconds invites.
AND AGAIN, I did not fair to my internet, I use special tools for this!

Re: Faster Servers in different Countrys (not only the USA)
Also, Ill note, I loaded a forumotion forum in just 0.8 seconds when I was back home in Australia, and the closest server? The French Server.
Honestly, if your taking this long to load a page, Id get in contact with your ISP.
Plus you should be asking for more not faster as you want one closer to you

Re: Faster Servers in different Countrys (not only the USA)
Three minutes? What internet type are you using? Surely this can't be broadband - I'm based in the UK and get forum loads within 3 seconds at most.
EDIT: Ah, you meant seconds. Sounds more reasonable, lol. 3 seconds isn't terrible though, and you can use multiple tabs to do something else if the waiting is an issue. The average is 0.5-0.9 for me.

Re: Faster Servers in different Countrys (not only the USA)
The servers are fast enough. When you ping a domain you are probably resolving the nameserver name for the domain. I host a custom domain name with godaddy. Usually the image host is what slows down the forums. I've noticedthat some of my icons pull from france and england. Distance isnt realy a factor if you have a good connection....a beam of light can go around earth 7 times in less than a second.
I dont see a big issue.
