Hiding attached subforums

Okay so I attached a few things to one of the subforums and the blasted things don't stay hidden on the main forum. T-T I dunno what I need to do and it's not covered in the faq.

Do you want to hide it from members?
Change the permissions of the sub forum (Note that ALL Admins ALWAYS have view of all (sub-)forums

Or change your Structure
Admin panel >> Display > Structure and hierarchy > Choose & save.

No I just want them to be seen when you select the place they are attached to. Like if I click 'General' and 'Absences' are attached, you only see the 'Absences' when you click 'General'.

That way it doesn't stretch out the board longer.
