CSS error of forumotion Empty CSS error of forumotion

Post by maiquang October 14th 2010, 7:56 am

I used firebug and pagespeed to check it found this error:

Use efficient CSS selectors

http://abc.forumotion.com/22-ltr.css has 6 very inefficient rules, 16 inefficient rules, and 7 potentially inefficient uses of :hover out of 317 total rules.

Very inefficient rules (good to fix on any page):

* *+html button.button2 img Tag key with 2 descendant selectors and Class overly qualified with tag
* * html button.button2 img Tag key with 3 descendant selectors and Class overly qualified with tag
* #chatbox_contextmenu p.close img Tag key with 2 descendant selectors and Class overly qualified with tag
* html ul.profile_field_list li Tag key with 2 descendant selectors and Class overly qualified with tag
* dl.file dt img Tag key with 2 descendant selectors and Class overly qualified with tag
* tr.post td td Tag key with 2 descendant selectors and Class overly qualified with tag

Inefficient rules (good to fix on interactive pages):

* .vote .vote-button a Tag key with 2 descendant selectors
* #page-footer .gen strong Tag key with 2 descendant selectors
* #chatbox_members ul li Tag key with 2 descendant selectors
* #profile-advanced-details ol li Tag key with 2 descendant selectors
* #profile-advanced-details .message-footer li Tag key with 2 descendant selectors
* #profile-advanced-details .message-footer li:after Tag key with 2 descendant selectors
* #profile-advanced-details .message-footer li a Tag key with 3 descendant selectors
* #profile-advanced-details .stats-field legend Tag key with 2 descendant selectors
* #profile-advanced-details .stats-field ul Tag key with 2 descendant selectors
* #profile-advanced-details .stats-field li Tag key with 2 descendant selectors
* #profile-advanced-details dl dt Tag key with 2 descendant selectors
* #profile-advanced-details dl dd Tag key with 2 descendant selectors
* #bookmarks a img Tag key with 2 descendant selectors
* dl.file dt Tag key with descendant selector and Class overly qualified with tag
* span.postdetails img Tag key with descendant selector and Class overly qualified with tag
* tr.post td Tag key with descendant selector and Class overly qualified with tag

Rules that use the :hover pseudo-selector on non-anchor elements. This can cause performance problems in Internet Explorer versions 7 and 8 when a strict doctype is used.

* td.row3.over:hover
* td.row1.over:hover
* button.button2:hover
* input.button2:hover
* .select button.button2:hover
* .select button:hover
* .postbody img:hover

The techs probably won't do anything until after the weekend, that is if it is a priority, but seeing how everything is currently working with a problem, I doubt they'd do anything at all

The download speed of https://illiweb.com is too slow. I offered FM change to a server better

illiweb.com is horribly slow. But it's inexpensive for forumotion. So it will not change.
You're worrying about inefficient CSS rules? lol!

You should instead worry about all the errors generated when a forumotion board CSS is put through the W3C CSS validator: http://jigsaw.w3.org/css-validator/

This is why I will ALWAYS turn off the system CSS and instead use a modified (meaning, error-free and optimized) version of the system CSS. Oh...the new forumotion CSS optimizer is only minifying the user CSS and there is essentially no performance increase. It CAN, however, break your CSS depending on what your first rule is...

imgfast.net is a redirect that gives forumotion a way to make it appear that all user images on a forum (avatars, user-uploaded smilies, gallery images) are on one host. Note how all three of these links go to the smiley/emoticon in the link you provided:

https://2img.net/u/3412/19/22/63/smiles/951938.gif
https://help.forumotion.com/users/3412/19/22/63/smiles/951938.gif
http://www.webartzforum.com/users/3412/19/22/63/smiles/951938.gif

Also note that the smiley in your link is an uploaded smiley, not a default smiley. The default smileys (such as the one in my previous post) are still on the illiweb.com server.
