Question about multi themed forums

Post by Diana on October 18th 2010, 1:42 pm

First topic message reminder :

http://help.forumotion.com/tricks-tips-f32/add-multi-themes-to-your-forum-by-darren-t71484.htm

Can someone tell please what to do when you reach the "=>Proceed to step 2 now" bit?

Am I blind or is there no step 2?

Hi,

I'm sorry about my tutorial, it appears that step 2 is in hide tags, and there was a few vital things missing ... which were replaced O.O

Anyways, I've sent Sanket a PM about this, and it should be corrected shortly, I've sent the corrections to Sanket now

When you say
Okay but do you know how I can get it to work properly?

Can you be a bit more specific at what has gone wrong?
ie, it still loads the default theme rather than the selected theme when not ion the index page?

The chosen theme disappears just as soon as I refresh the page. :/

hmm....

When you edited the templates, the code you added was in between the <head> tags right?

Could we have a link to your forum please?

@Gangstar15 wrote:The code in the HTML page : http://www.dynamicdrive.com/dynamicindex9/styleswitch.js

The codes in the templates:

Code:
<script src="HTML PAGE URL HERE" type="text/javascript"></script>

This must be above the </head> tag (:
Code:
<link rel="alternate stylesheet" type="text/css" media="screen" title="default" href="DEFAULT STYLE SHEET URL HERE" />

<link rel="alternate stylesheet" type="text/css" media="screen" title="theme1" href="STYLE SHEET 1 URL HERE" />

<link rel="alternate stylesheet" type="text/css" media="screen" title="theme2" href="STYLE SHEET 2URL HERE" />

And this one under the </head> tag, anywhere under <body>
Code:
<form id="switchform">

<!-- Choose theme 1 -->
<input type="radio" name="choice" value="default" onClick="chooseStyle(this.value, 60)">Default Theme

<!-- Choose theme 2 -->
<input type="radio" name="choice" value="theme1" onClick="chooseStyle(this.value, 60)">Theme 1 Name

<!-- Choose theme 3 -->
<input type="radio" name="choice" value="theme2" onClick="chooseStyle(this.value, 60)">Theme 2 Name
</form>

This is what I did Smile

Do I need to make a user with admin rights for you?

You can find in the Junk, not inbox (:

They will give a ready code like this:
Code:

<script src="JAVASCRIPT URL" type="text/javascript"></script>

YOu need to put in the overall_header (:

but remember to delete the old one (:

Mhh..is there any other free website that I can use? Cause I've inserted most of my e mail addresses there and it still doesn't send me anything.

Or is there any other way to fix this thing?

Re: Question about multi themed forums

Post by Diana on October 20th 2010, 7:57 pm

Thanks again, Gangstar.
I have a few questions though:

1) I have my menu in a widget. Do I have to make a new menu in the new themes to fit the theme or will the original widget stay the same in all the themes?

2) How exactly can I locate the style sheet bit in the forum? Like how exactly do I get to know what the page is for my theme? The code is so long and I have no clue where it should be.

3) I created new forums to design the looks I want to use on my main forum - do the looks forums have to be exactly the same as my main forum in the... all the other way aswell. Like, say my main forum has users activating themselves, do I have to have it that way in the looks forums aswell? And I disabled new users to sign up on the looks forum, eill that have any effect on my main forum?

Search for CSS there you will find you CSS link (:
e.g : 50-ltr.css
The second point I was talking about was that. The css bit I find in my code doesn't work in the theme changer. It just goes back to the default look.
Confused

Re: Question about multi themed forums

Well you said I can create a forum and change the look of the theme on it, then get the -ltr thingy of it and put it in the theme changer code.
I did it, but it won t change into the theme, it just goes to default look of the forum.

Say I created a forum and changed the theme to my liking and then got the -ltr.css code and put in my theme changer code. It s supposed to change to the look I made on the new forum, but it doesn t . It just changes to the default look.

Hi rhe!

Can you please tell me where exactly you are stuck at? Have you added the provided codes in your templates? Please post them here, or provide me a link to your forum.

Thanks Smile

Also the CSS stylesheets must be under all other stylesheet (:
e.g:

Code:

<head>
here is the default stylesheet/script.

The theme changer must be..
"HERE"
</head>

Gahhh.. I am so lost right now. I don't even know how to set up the whole thing. I want to know what to do and how to do it. Exactly. These codes are just murderers! They're doing my head in so much.
I will start everything from scratch and get back to yous.
