Re: finding a IP address
If they posted check one of their post and click the IP or if if they haven't posted they will need to be online on the same time as you are. If they are you can go to Admin Panel and check Who is online.

Re: finding a IP address
yeah you can find a user by searching an IP address.
Just go admin panel - users and groups - search for a user. I know it says username/e mail there, but it works when you put an IP address there.

Re: finding a IP address
then you must not have an image for it.
Go to
Admin panel>display> Pics management>advanced mode>buttons
scroll down the list about half way and make sure the image is there and not clicked on hide.
if the image is clicked on hide you will most likely have to re-upload another image for the ip button.

Yeah, but you can look at the IP address without banning them if you need to
(It can only be done if the user has posted a message)
Re: finding a IP address
In order to check the ip address make use of this site http://www.ip-details.com/ . it provides the exact information at free cost & very good in service ..

Re: finding a IP address
We all know that you can only see a users IP address when they made a post.
At the admin panel you can see the IP addresses that are online (doesnt say what users those are).
The main questions are:
Why is there no option to see a users IP in the "Modify a user" page? (just like you can see there email there)
Will there ever be a time that a forum owner can see the IP of non posting members?
If not, why not?

Re: finding a IP address
This is why all forums founder should set up an introductory board.
By setting this up, members have to introduce their self or say hi in order to get access to the rest of the forum.. thus also will provide a ip if you evener need to look it/ban etc.
It's very simple to set up. all you do is have all forums permissions set to view only or how ever you want the permissions for the rest of the forum.
You can then set up a group called members group. So when they post on the intro board it will automatically add them to the members group and grant them permissions to the rest of the forum on how you have the groups permissions set.
So then if they never introduce their self's they can not post anywhere else and no spam or rules can be broken, they would just be an inactive member that never posted and there is no harm in that.
-----------------------------------
Another good reason to do this
This will also put all your members in a group so if you wanted to send a mass private messages to all members, you can select the group option and the same pm will go to all the members.
Now that dont have anything to do with the ip, but is another good reason why all members should a least be put in a members group.

well theirs not much you can do about proxies, but depending how someone has one set up it dose not necessarily mean it will hide them completely and or cant not complain to their service provider.. it depends. i dont bother using them. however i feel everyone will start trying to hide behind proxies and ip changers due to the true lack of privacy online this day and age.

Re: finding a IP address
ur right but i saw many proxies dont display the ip no matter what and some show different ips there are some softwares/programs which you can use to avoid proxies from visiting your site i mean there will be a limit and the founder can choose the limits

Re: finding a IP address
yeah you can find scripts and other various things to add to your sites that would prevent proxy users, but then there are things proxy users can set up to get around it.
It's all part of the game i guess.
Anyway i dont want to get out there discussing proxies so lets try to stay on topic about the IP question so we can resolve the issue.
It has basically been answered, just want to give hlong19 time to reply so we can then mark and lock
