Solved Vetting a new user trying to register

Is there anyway of vetting a new user trying to register ? other than looking at there user name and email address ?

Send them emails etc.

It depends on what the forum is for, I run a Video Games forum for a large online sharing game, so I could vet by getting potential users to comment on my stuff made for the game. I see yours is a Motorbike orientated forum, so I am not sure how you could beyond emailing potential users for more info before activating their account.
