Ugly banner adds

Post by efbe on November 4th 2010, 12:59 am

I notice the option to not use banner adds has been removed from our forums. I do have another forum which i pay to have advertising removed but a forum i have set up for a small sporting group which can't afford ad removal and now has this type of advertising shaking around.

It makes the forum look very ugly or is that the intention of Forumotion to put up ugly annoying banner ads?
What ever happened to the google type ads? They were at least bearable. I know the forums are free and Forumotion do give us a great service but i feel for those who can't afford to have the banner advertising removed.
Cheers.

Its Google not Forumotion. Forumotion can do something about the ad but its really Google.

Yes i understand that Mr Mario, i just wish those type of banner adds never show. I'd like to see or hope Forumotion change the type of advertising we are now putting up with, they are very annoying.
Thank you.

Hi,

In Admin panel >> General > Forum/configuration > Set the option Reduce the number of displays for images advertisements : to Yes and it may remove the banner Smile

Thanks Darren1, but that doesn't work, as you can see i have it set to reduce the number of images, and it's still the same.

This is on Google's end, I think they've put a stop to text adds. Forumotion's got to make money some way so, they can't really remove the ads completely. :/

Text ads were much better and bearable, the flash banners worry me a little, there's some that only say "play now" play what? without actually clicking on them you have no idea what some mean, and if you do click on them, god knows what types of sites your directed to. All i can say is i hope most members have malware removal ready on thier pc's just in case.
Cheers.

yes i just made a post about this on some other thread

what i would like to know really is why take the settings off the admin page and then not tell us about the change
i was thinking i have lost my mind or some thing i spent 25 or more mins looking over the admin page for some thing that is no longer there Mad
a heads up would have been nice.

as for the setting in its place well that's a joke if you ask me if it's all down to google then why even have that setting in the site ????

if google have there way as they always do its going to have any banner it wasnts

befor we know it porn adds will be back again and no way of stopping them that is why i set it to text adds only......
