Links to file host not working properly
Greetings.
I have been having this problem for some time now. Whenever I post a link on my forum to my file hosting service and the link is clicked on it goes to a black screen as in the image below. I have tried several different file host all with the same results. I can use the same link on a different forum without any problem. Any ideas how to resolve this. It is a real issue to my forum members.

Re: Links to file host not working properly
I see. It only began happening a few months ago. It did not happen when I first created my forum. I would like to know how to change it or to have it changed. It is not acceptable to me or my forum members. It is very confusing to them. It is a very negative aspect especially for a forum such as mine where file downloads are a routine part of the process for the assistance I offer. Nearly every member who has been instructed to download a particular file via my file host contacts me thinking they have been redirected by some form of malware. It is ultimately costing me members which equals money many times.

You can't change it. This was a something Forumotion added awhile ago. They aren't going to remove it.

Re: Links to file host not working properly
As said It is unlikely they will change it but you could suggest they remove it here
In the meantime there is nothing you do

Thanks for your reply. I have been communicating with Typlo via pm. It appears this is some sort of action taken against illegal file sharing on the forumotion platform. I am not a web designer and, therefore, have no clue as to what type of restriction/change was made.
It was suggested that I use a file host which requires me to either purchase the service (I have already purchased two others to circumvent this) or use the free version which would require my clients/members to wait 45 seconds prior to each download beginning.

As stated, I am not a web designer and have no clue as to what type of change was made but, if the change(s) were, in fact, in response to illegal file sharing I fail to see how the change prevented such. In any event, such actions should have been dealt with differently by either deleting/banning the users who engage in such activity or, in the alternative, offering those of us who paid to use forumotion the opportunity to withdraw our forum including a full refund.
I do not understand how the forumotion platform could have been used to any significant extent for illegal file sharing and how causing some file hosting sites to appear as the image above could prevent such. If file hosting sites were being used to host the illegal files then the issue is with the file host. Unless the file host can somehow be completely blocked via forumotion then the efforts appear to be useless.
At the very least, forumotion members should have been notified that such changes were going to take place and the opportunity to withdraw. Whether some realize it or not, those of us who purchase our domain via forumotion pay nearly 6 times the amount the same domain could be purchased in other places. I, personally, chose forumotion because of the support and expected improvements and not regress.

Re: Links to file host not working properly
I understand your concern but you do understand this is a free service you are getting and that Forumotion may add or remove a feature without telling you because its their service. I don't see whats wrong with this as its trying to prevent people from posting illegal programs/activity on the forum. This should be a good thing.

Re: Links to file host not working properly
What's wrong with it is that I am unable to use two different file host that I have paid to use both of which I was able to use when I paid quadruple the price for my domain through forumotion. That's what's wrong with it. So, apparently you do not understand my concern. Furthermore, their actions make no sense to me. The claim was that the forumotion platform was being used to host illegal file sharing. If, in fact, that is the case then what does that have to do with an external file host? Also, what did they accomplish by making it more difficult and confusing for forum members to gain access to a file host which they can still gain access to?
If any changes need to be made they can work on the other issue that myself and another forumotion member posted in August of 2010 that has yet to be resolved.

While the service may appear on the surface to be free the fees charged for a domain moooore than compensate. This is especially true when one considers the amount of monies received as a result of the advertisements which appear on my homepage combined with the over 700 members my forum has, as well as, an excellent bounce rate. So, with all due respect, don't give me the free speech. I may not be educated on web design but, I am educated in business and business contracts.
Regards.
