background row picture catagories

i am trying to make the picture row catagories invisable on my site, i have tried deleting whats in there from the theme pics management, ive tried making them transparent, ive cleared my cookies and nothing happens
i have searched the help and tried to find what was suggested in the css to have a go at changing it but i cant find where i need to be and im a bit dubious of messing things up.
can anybody help me please, use simple terms if it needs to be sorted through css and let me know exactly where im looking.

i managed to sort this but now im left with double headings, can anyone tell me how to get rid of the top ones please
