Hello all, I have a forum that I have set up but there is only a small portal that is on the page that ask visitors to register, but they can still see the content I have on my forum and I would like to have a log in page, so non registered users can register before they can view the page.

thanks.

Hi, your title being non explicit and therefore not facilitating research via the search option, I'm not answering (nor is any other member) until you change your title for an explicit one, related to your problem
Why we ask for explicit titles
The forum's search engine bases its research on keywords found in topic titles.

When you do a research, do you use "help", "urgent", "problem", "SOS" or "question" as keywords to look for topics about your problem/question?
Certainly not! So this is why it is important to use titles related to your problem/question. Doing this makes the researches much easier for visitors who use the search engine to get an answer to their question.
Thanks for your understanding.

I think what you want to do is have it so that they have to register to view your content.

If that is the case then this is what you should be doing:

ACP>GENERAL>CATEGORIES AND FORUMS>PERMISSIONS

In this are you will be able to limit how far the visitors can go in your forum.

BEFORE YOU DO ANYTHING HERE READ THESE INSTRUCTIONS COMPLETELY FIRST

See these===>ACP>GENERAL>CATEGORIES AND FORUMS>PERMISSIONS

They are your step by step instructions, do the following:

1]Open your "Administration Panel" by clicking on the link at the bottom of your forum page.
Here you will find 6 Tabs across the top:
[Home-General-Display-Users&Groups-Modules-Misc]

2]Click on the GENERAL tab.

3]On the left side of the page are a bunch of categories that are underlined with sub-categories under each one. Find the sub-category CATEGORIES AND FORUMS and click on it.

4]You will now find on this page your forum layout with your Categories, Forums & Blogs. In the Legend Bar you will see: Add-Modify-Permissions-Resync-Delete

If you look at your layout you will see the symbols associated with each of the above beside each line on the page.

5]You want to go to each Permissions symbol you see and click on them.
When you do make sure you are in the advanced mode, here you will find all the settings that will allow just exactly how much you want to allow visitors to see when they visit, also, the rules for everybody else and how far you want them to go.
Check and uncheck boxes that you can, you will find that all the Admin boxes cannot be changed, this is for your protection, you will see that is your ULTIMATE control and you are the only one that has access to everything all the time.

**NOTE HERE**
You will have to set Permissions on every permissions symbol you see on that page.
I suggest you get a pen and paper and on the first (top) one you adjust you write down the permissions allowed for the people that are listed for reference when you do all the rest.

===>REMEMBER ONCE YOU ARE FINISHED TO HIT THE "SAVE" BUTTON ON THE BOTTOM OF EACH PAGE<===:wouhou:

Hope this helps you out, as a rule of thumb I have found that if you allow visitors to "View the forum" & "Read the topics" that this will entice them to join.
But ultimately the security of it is up to you.

Thanks. Mr. Green

P.S. In the future you may find that other posters who answer any future questions you have will answer like this:
ACP>GENERAL>CATEGORIES AND FORUMS>PERMISSIONS just remember what I told you here and you should not have any problems with what they tell you to do.
