Post by naca007 Mon Dec 27 2010, 16:55

I've noticed this on several forums . Every time when I see new post in some topic , I click on topic and it get me to first page , instead of the last ( like usually ) . At first I though it was forumotion bug , but it's been like that for almost a week now . What is the problem ?

What about those of us using phpBB3 with no templates to change?
Our forum's topics also direct people to the first page. This is very annoying and putting people off from posting. What can we do?

http://find-madeleine.forumotion.net/

Any help or advice appreciated.

Hi Kirk,

Thanks for getting back to me.
No, our forum has always shown the last post on a thread first. We have some very long threads of around 50 pages and it is very frustrating having to selectt he page number each time.

We have many forums set up and they are all set up as follows:

Sort topics by: Topics post's date (most recent in first)

Sort the post of a topic by: Post's date (most oldest in first)

We have never changed these settings. This has only happened since the url's changed.
I hope we don't have to go through each forum and change the settings. That will take a long time to do.

yeah it's something that the techs are aware of.
i just wasn't sure if it was the problem of haveing them settings set different. they can be a lil confusing sometimes.

i will send this to the office to see if there is any news or updates on the situation, there have been a few others i think last week with the same problem.

Did you guys&gals try restoring the forum back a day or two befor it starts happening through the forums utilities tool?

oh where and what exactly is the thing you are clicking that would bring you to the last page/post yous are saying, because i need to be sure befor i send it.

is it the link that goes in the third column of a forum for what ever was posted last?

if someone can give me a screenshot that would help a lot.

Yes, it is the link that takes you to thelast post of a thread (topic) thatis the problem.
It automatically takes you to the first page instead.

In the past clicking on that thread title takes you to the last post of the thread, now it takes you to the first post, even my members know it. I do hope this thing get fixed soon.

There was an update when the url's updated. This will cause this to happen. If you haven't cleared your cache in awhile please do so now: https://help.forumotion.com/frequently-asked-questions-f5/how-to-clear-the-cache-in-firefox-internet-explore-chrome-t22597.htm

If it doesn't work still someone from the staff will report this problem to the techs.

Hello !

Answer of ForumOtion officials to that question
Pinguino wrote:
Aof-Neptune wrote:
what's the point of having two links in the same cell if it points both on the same message.
Finally inconsistency deleted!
Thanks to ForumActif staff for the improvement.

Thank you AoF-Neptune is precisely the idea, removed the inconsistency of having two links in one place referring to the same thing ! Suddenly, we have ensured that the link on the referral to the start of the topic and that of the last message to the last post!

Let me reiterate that this is the basic operation of PhpBB we have adopted with this modification

Full topic there translated by Google.
Original topic there : Original thread (French)
New post - first page Bugfa
Before update :
- Red square (text) went to last post
- Green square (icon) went to last post.
=> 2 links going to same place.
Now (if no changes in templates have been done) :
- Red square (text) -> First post.
- Green square (icon) -> Last post.
=> Now user is able to choose where he wants to go (beginning or end of the topic)

Some posts later !
Aof-Neptune wrote:[Angry mode]Thank you for allowing us to choose the operation of the link to the last topic on the index, although I think it would have been preferable to leave the choice to members via a profile option and not the admins who will impose their vision of things to all their members.
But I note once again that the directors or phpBB3 Invision have been away from this possibility, since the solution goes through the templates. Although I personally do not care a bit, do not use one of these two versions.[/Angry mode]

Answer from a staff member:
Toto456 wrote:For PhpBB3 forums and Invision versions, there is currently no solution, no need to try to insert these codes somewhere: templates can not be modified in both versions. Wink It will take a little more, so that a solution can you also be given

All we can do atm is to wait for their solution.
For those who have really problems with that, you can choose to place a bigger icon for last post icon.

Is this really the only solution for those of us using PHPBB3?

How can we create a bigger icon for the last post?

Hi,

Yes, this is the final solution, as it was a devolpment choice and not a bug.

Select a new image, or have a new larger one created, and upload it to an image host, then proceed to: Admin panel >> Display > Pics management > Advanced Mode > Mini Icons > Link last post. update the URL there to the new, larger image's URL that is given by a image host & save Smile

I don't think many if anyone on our forum knows what the 'Last post image' is.

Is it possible to replace this with hyperlinked text instead?

No you cant without template access.

But you can disable display of topic titles there.
If they have no title displayed there, your members will be forced to use icon.

But standard icons are pretty small and it can discourage members if they cant see icon.
