Should we have this?
"Help us to help you!"
Hello users of ForuMotion and forumgoers,
My suggestion is to propose a sticky at the top of each support forum to tell users on how to present their questions and queries to us. This is to make our lives easier and hopefully cut down on the amount of problems that are not answered/dealt with. I suggest that this sticky should be called "Help us to help you!" and its content:
Something like this will definitely help, in my opinion. It's not that big of a read, it's clear and it's informative. So what do you guys think? Comments, constructive criticism and suggestions are appreciated.
Regards,
Base

This is to make our lives easier and hopefully cut down on the amount of problems that are not answered/dealt with. I suggest that this sticky should be called "Help us to help you!" and its content:
Hello,
At the ForuMotion support forum, we try our best to help you out and we strongly advise you to read this topic. By reading this topic, you'll find out how to help us to help you with your problems.
1. Make an effort to describe your problem : The more information you can provide us, the better. This helps us understand your problem clearly so that we can give you accurate and relevant support. If we do not understand your problem then it will make it harder for us and for you to solve it. It's simple things such as spelling errors or using the wrong terminology i.e. forum instead of category which can really make it more trouble than it's worth.
Optionally, you can also use a screenshot to help explain your problem further. If you would like a tutorial on how to take a screenshot, then please read this article: http://help.forumotion.com/tricks-tips-f32/how-to-take-a-screen-shot-t24814.htm
If you're not an English speaker, then please try your best to describe your problem. Don't forget that there are other support forums that ForuMotion has to offer. Here is a list of the official support forums: http://help.forumotion.com/Official-support-forums-t2079.htm
2. Be patient! : Sometimes we cannot provide support instantly and you may need to wait for your answers. Don't forget that we're humans too. Bumping your topic will not always result in a direct answer. Also, don't panic if your topic has not received any replies - it doesn't mean that we haven't read it.
3. Answer our questions / pay attention to your topic : Sometimes we may ask you some further questions regarding your problem so that we can give you a specific response. If you're not active on this forum or paying attention to your topic then you won't know when we give you a response or ask you a question. Always watch your own topic!
4. Do a search before you ask us! : Chances are, there may already be a topic out there that has an answer to your problem. Always conduct a search before making a new topic; you will never know unless you try.
5. Make sure your title is specific and related to your problem : The reason why ask you to do this is because it satifies the search feature and helps other users to find your problem in future if they have the same problem as you! Never use words such as "HELP", "URGENT" or "READ PLEASE" etc; no one searches for these words when doing a search.
6. Tell us if your problem is solved : If your problem has been solved, then please make a post stating so and mark your topic as solved (edit the first post and change the Topic Icon). This will save time so that the moderator(s) can lock your topic.
Thank you,
ForuMotion Support Forum

Re: "Help us to help you!"
This is a great idea! I have answered the same question about 5 times each when people can just search for it. Users also use too vague of descriptions and don't use proper English. This would really help the staff and the users here to help others. I really like this idea, and it isn't hard to add to the forum.

Re: "Help us to help you!"
I like the idea but the problem is users don't read. They don't even read the rules. But we can add it if the other staff members agree.

This is a great idea, but like MrMario said most members do not read the important topics first.

I guess if they don't read the RULES on how to post properly, they don't get support until they do. The staff can lock the topics that aren't deemed fit.

On the contrary! One could say that users DO read.
But due to our curiosity, I'm sure that many members will take a look at a new sticky entitled "Help us to help you!". There is also the fact that this topic isn't about the rules - it's about giving support - and I'm pretty most members come here for support and I'm sure they wouldn't just ignore something that would help them.

That's a bit harsh, in my opinion.

That's three out of five global moderators liking this idea.
Re: "Help us to help you!"
Make that four out of five, Base!! I like this idea, a lot. It would really be helpful if we could get members to read and follow such instructions. Maybe if we make the text in neon green like Bar lights, it would draw members to it like a moth to a flame, hehe, Great suggestion, Base!!

Re: "Help us to help you!"

As MrMario mentionned, members don't read the rules, so why would they read a sticky?
A "noob member" (aka me when I arrived), comes here in a panic, searching quickly an answer to something terrible that'll blow up his forum in the next ten minutes if he doesn't fix it! Ok, we all agree it's not that bad, but it's the mind frame they have.
I'd be ok to re-opening the Welcome P.M, but I tend to disagree to the idea of a sticky

Re: "Help us to help you!"
Caihlem, really? I like this idea! We could colorize it, in BOLD text, maybe make it a global announcement even, it has potential I think. The welcome PM messages when members registers barely get a second glance really, until way after they'd posted in the wrong sections, using inappropriate titles, double posting everywhere and jumping in other members threads even. Newbs are way out of control when they step on the scene!! lol

Re: "Help us to help you!"
Yes, I must agree with Nessa. Welcome private messages tend to be annoying and I have to say that many members don't actually read them.
I understand that some people don't even read the rules, but this idea has its potential to work. Even if it doesn't, it won't have any bad consequences.
I mean, if you're basing your arguments on the fact that members don't read the rules then why are they even there in the first place? Exactly; it's there for members to read. And no matter if there are members who don't read them, there will always be people who do read them.
I appreciate your comments, but like I said, this idea has its potential to work; it won't have any bad consequences and it's worth a try. Not to mention the ease of adding this.

Base

Re: "Help us to help you!"
*Waiting on Beno & Luky
The concept behind this suggestion a really good idea, however, I find it to be, one that wont help.
yes, it will help someone to explain the situation, if s/he doesn't doesnt know how to, but thats not the issue.
Several issues persist here
1) Not all of our dedication is spent to just one language, an example of this is when one is from vietnam, and they lack, or have no English skills (Why would they be on the internet then?), thus, they cannot, and will not read it.
2) Most users DON'T read the current rules; why waste the time to make more un-used credentials?
3) "I'm lazy" attitude
4) "it's urgent, I need it fixed NOW" and conveniently , one of us is online and can help them and it's not to the standard.
5) I can for-see this EASILY becoming the STANDARD for requesting for help, alike it is in the graphics forum.
6) Yes the French also use this, but they ONLY assist FRENCH speakers/users - We don't, were a multi-lingual support forum.
I think I made both my vote, and reason so easily understand that I don't need to vote yet
Darren.

I see. Well, thank you for your comments and participation, Darren. Of course, it is not mandatory to apply this for EVERY single topic created. But I think that for those that don't know how to construct a topic to a good standard (I'm talking about English speakers here), then I think that this topic would be helpful in some way. And yes, we're waiting for you Beno and Luky!

Re: "Help us to help you!"
We are kindly rejecting this. The reason is, we don't want to waste someone time of creating this or making a sticky when people don't read them. The only people who would, is the long term members and they would know from the start. I'm sorry.
