Solved Created Group can "ban" other users.

Post by fAIL gRAMMAR on January 28th 2011, 8:24 am

Hey all,

This got posted to me on my own forum from one of the people in one of my new groups I redone after a Forum Change a week ago.

Apparently, he has the option to ban users in a group ranked below him.

The guy who can "ban" this guy is in a Group called Human Resources which at 6 in the Group Admin section with Officers at 10.

The other thing is that Human Resources moderate three forums, is this is what is causing it?

How do I fix it? Do I need to shift the groups to Rank 6 in Group Admin to solve it? or is it some other explanation.

I'd like to get this solved ASAP in case of problems further on down the track. Confused

Cheerio,

fAIL gRAMMAR.

Are you talking about groups? A groups order has nothing to do with banning. No group member can ban any other member from other group if they have moderation access.

In addition to what Sanket has said, if they have moderation access to ANY forums then they will have the power to ban. Smile

@Sanket: Yes, I'm talking about groups - The two groups I'm referring to are ones created manually in the ACP and the group that can ban 'Officers' is a Moderator of 3 Forums on my Board.

@Base: So, If they have ban powers because I made them Moderators of 3 Forums on my Board, that means that will affect 3 other manually created groups as well - I wanted to have the groups I made moderate their own section that I devised for them, instead of it being up to the Global Mods to deal with. :S

Essentially, yes, they will have the power to ban. However, they will not be able to ban any member in a group that also has moderation access to any forums. I don't see why it's bad thing - at least they can ban rule breakers in sections where they can't moderate.

But if you really like to remove their power to ban then there is a method of doing so. However, this will disallow your global moderators to ban as well. Are you prepared to accept the consequences? If so, please go to:

1. Administration Panel (advanced mode)
2. General Tab
3. Security (on the left, under Forum)
4. Select "Disallow moderators to ban members : : Yes"
5. Hit Save

This has disabled banning powers for every moderator on your forum. Administrators can still ban, however. Wink

Hmm, that would probably be the best way to deal with it, we don't have many problems on our forum to deal with Bans, but that's ok, I'm pretty much on the forum 24/7 anyways, what I will do however is just inform the mods and the new groups of the change.

Base, I thank you for your assistance.

Sanket or any other mod, Please lock as this is now Solved. Very Happy

Cheers,
