if I grant any kind of access to Members I cannot restrict any group - guestion about usergroups Empty if I grant any kind of access to Members I cannot restrict any group - guestion about usergroups

Post by Diana Wed Feb 09 2011, 20:18

Okay, can someone please explain how to do this: I want the users who sign up to post in a thread first to see the rest of the forum (just to check them). How is it possible that they're added to the group automatically when they sign up? I want the new users/this group to be able to see only this one subforum where they have to post.
And another thing is that I don't want the regular users to see that subforum so that leaves out the Member group in any of the options. Cause if I grant any kind of access to Members I cannot restrict any group.

Hello rhe,

This is possible. All you need to do is create an auto join group with a post count of 1 in order to join it and make it so that only members in the auto join group can view the rest of the forum (excluding that one forum in which you need your members to post in first). I suggest you read this topic for further help: https://help.forumotion.com/tricks-tips-f32/restricted-forums-t38399.htm

Make sure you repeat this process for the rest of your forums!

Very Happy

Regards,

Ugh, I am facing yet another problem though.
Okay, here is how I want it:
1) Guests can see all forums, besides the one where signed up members have to post first. They can see them but cannot read or post.
2) When they sign up, they only see the one subforum where they have to post first.
3) When they become a regular member they can no longer see the subforum - it is like point one but with posting posting and reading.

I kind of get stuck with the Gues, Member thing now, before it was Member and Usergroup

(When I create the automatic group with one or zero posts, all of the members are added to this group and the regular members see that one subforum anyway, even if they are added to another group)

1. In that case, make sure you modify the forum permissions so that you check the box for Guest, "View the forum" but make sure you uncheck the box "Read the topics" to stop guests from reading or posting in your topics.

2. Using the above solution will work. Wink

3. I'm afraid that this isn't possible.

You're welcome! But what is it that you cannot do; because restricting members that haven't made one post yet works. Smile

Yes, but if it is an auto group then its restrictions apply to all members if the minimum post amount for this group is 0.

Okay, is there anyway something like this can be done? Cause I have some idiotic people signing up and before letting them into the main forum they have to post in a welcome/introduction thread. The thing is some of them post liks to porn sites and my forum is for underage girls and I don't want them to see those links.
At the minute everyone can see the thread but I want it to be visible for members who have just signed up and haven't been added to the usergroup that can see rest of the forum so me and the moderators can remove those links without anyone seeing.

Well don't give permissions to the created members group for that introduction forum.
Have this members group for auto subscribe with 1 post.

So the users will post here, then with that one post they move to the members group & won't be able to see this forum & will be able to see the other forums.
Hope thats what you were looking for.

But how can I make the new members see the introduction thing then? Automatically?

See there will be a default members group, you can give that default members group the ability to view that forum.

If the default members group can see something then everyone else can see it aswell, that is the problem since day one.

Oh well, how about making two members groups then?
One members group will have 0 number of posts & the other one 1 number of posts as autosubscribe?

So the 0 number of posts group will be having permissions to view that introduction forum? That should work then right?

No, I posted about it in my earlier replies. All members will be added to the group then - the 0 post account group.

Then the only thing that remains is removal of those members from the group manually.

Please don't just yet.
Cause I haven't been able to do anything since my internet connection is bad these days, I might want to ask something more once I get to do this.
