How to add music without adding any extra visuals to the forum?

Post by Cool-Guy on February 27th 2011, 1:53 am

Hello,

I would like to add a theme to my forum, so that when you enter it, music will start playing. Is there any way to do this, without adding any "extra visuals" to the forum? Before, when I tried adding music, a "music box" appeared, and I didn't like that.

I don't want the forum to change at all. It should look exactly the same.

Any help, would be awesome. Very Happy

Thanks.

I think you can hide the music box. What code do you use?

I am not using any code at the moment. It was about a year ago I used the box, and this time, I wanted it "invisible".

So, what code would do the best? Very Happy

Didn't understand anything from that one. I mean, how should I get my MP3 to the code? Sad

You can try uploading your .mp3 file to a hosting site like filden and use the direct link to put it in there.

OK. Two questions:

1. Where am I supposed to put the link to the theme?

2. And where am I supposed two put the code itself?

there is a couple ways you can do it,
if your useing a music player then just change the dimensions .
Width 1 Hight 1 and a very tiny little (dot will show) . with show or you can even change it to zero but it wont always play on all browsers so have it as one in the best.

Or you can put your music code on a html page, then take the html link and put it in a iframe with the dimensions set to zero.

Like this.

Code:
<iframe src='YOUR HTML PAGE LINK HERE' width='0%' height='0px' style='border: 0px solid #'></iframe>

OK. Just a couple of questions:

I have now added this code: <iframe src=http://listen.grooveshark.com/s/Arrival+To+Earth+mp3+/29QBVc?src=5 width='0%' height='0px' style='border: 0px solid #'></iframe>

... And I now have some problems.

1. What code should I add so that the theme starts playing again after it is over? Currently, it stops.

2. How can I make it play all over the forum, and not just when entering index?

3. Every time I try to go away from the index, a message appears saying: "Leaving now will will interrupt the song you're listening to." Then I have to click either "Stay." or "Leave.". How to get rid of this one?

Thanks.

Yes, it can't stay continuously when you flip over pages.

Since you use phpbb3 it won't appear on all pages.

you can put the code in your forum announcement in the acp and this will allow it to play on every page.

for phpbb 2 over aoll header template would be the ideal place.

As far as your music looping and restarting, then you would have to have it uploaded to something that will allow you to have the options set.

And the iframe would not be what you want for something like that.
You would want to use something like podbean.com then select the options and settings you want on the player.
Once the code is generated then you can simply just change the dimensions to 1 x 1 thus will make it almost invisible.

you can make them 0 x 0 but, will not always play on all browsers that way. so your best bet would be to have it 1 x 1

also keep in mind if you have the same music coming on every time you click a page some members may find this to be annoying after a while, so may be just have it on your index or what ever home page you are useing, or if your useing html or portal as a home page.

Unless it was sound effects. Razz I was simply curious though, I personally wouldn't want to use this type of thing (on a forum anyways), as it might drive visitors away.
