Solved Help with gallery and favicon

Post by Brett.Arkansas March 4th 2011, 4:37 am

Alright. After hours of searching I'm exhausted and can't figure out my problem.

First, I'll address the Favicon issue. I've read https://help.forumotion.com/t3345-favicons and went through all of the steps. I simply DO NOT have a meta tag on my generalities section under my homepage, display, administration panel, etc. It ISN'T there. I'm on the advanced options.

This is what I have: https://2img.net/h/oi53.tinypic.com/2vljiw9.jpg

I have never used this site before and have been playing around with it. I don't know much, I know, but I just wanted to ask how to solve my problem. I've already gone to http://tools.dynamicdrive.com/favicon/ and was able to make the image I wanted into a favicon for my site. Saved it, etc. I had to host it up on a site in order be able to show it. A lot of them pointed to host the file on FileDen, however, I /could not/ go to that site because of multiple warnings when I searched for it on google. It told me that the site might harm my computer, when I went in anyways, it said that the site was trying to hack my computer, and I left. I have a very good anti-virus/etc software on my system so I'm not really worried but...Now I have the problem of not being ABLE to host this file. Since it's a ICO file, it's nearly IMPOSSIBLE to host it on sites that are used to PNG, JPEG, etc. And I've searched endlessly for a system that could be like this FileDen but I've come up with nothing. It either forces you to download the file or is just difficult. Obviously they can't take a downloaded image, they need it hosted online. And I can't do this, it's extremely frustrating to try. I've given up on it.

As I said, I've got no meta-tags from what I have thoroughly looked though...And I can't use FileDen to host my ICO file. So what can I use? And even then, how in the world do I apply it? I've tried just messing around with the code they gave me...

<link rel="shortcut icon" type="image/x-icon" href="http://of_the_favicon.ico" />
<link rel="icon" type="image/png" href="http://of_the_favicon" />

Of course, the image being hosted that I want for my favicon will be in the href bit. I didn't have a host site so I just decided to use this to test it out. The main icon for the site DID change, it made it blank, obviously being unable to read it. I put this code simply in the 'Message Content' section and that seems to work so I guess forget about the Meta-Tags. I just merely need a site to host my ICO file on now that ISN'T FileDen, obviously.

Second problem. The gallery. I've looked A LOT for the answer to this one but found NOTHING. I'm a bit confused as to the use of portals and all, it took me awhile to play with it and see it. I don't really understand their use or even want/need for them. I'd like for my entire page to just be on the 'forum' page. I do not want a separate page or a portal. That's a bit annoying to me. What I don't understand is why I can't simply PUT the gallery on the forums page, why is that not allowed? I wanted my categories and under the art category I was wanting to put different galleries and albums and all. I do not want to have my gallery on a portal, I'd like for it to be on the main.

Could anyone please tell me how I can fix this or at least make it seem like it's being linked from the main? I'd like to keep everything branching off of that main page to feel organized and that portal page throws me off and I simply don't know what to do. I'd like for someone's help.

Either way, thank you for reading all of this and I'll appreciate any comments you have to try to help me on this issue.

Solved Re: Help with gallery and favicon

Post by Brett.Arkansas March 5th 2011, 3:31 pm

Nevermind on the favicon bit. I got frustrated and did more research. I ended up not being able to find a suitable ISO hosting site that would allow me to VIEW the file, not download it. From what I understand, you need an ISO format in order for the favicon to be able to be seen by all browsers. But instead I got frustrated with it, uploaded the image I wanted as the favicon before as a regular PNG onto some image site, used the image site's code, and put it there instead. It seems to work for me, however, I do not know if it works for anyone else. I would ask one of my members to my site or someone else I know on the internet to view it for me but no one is online right now lol.

However. I DO still have a problem with the gallery bit. I'd really like an answer to that, if possible, explaining it to me. I'm not in any type of hurry or anything for this, but an answer would be nice.

Anyways, thanks for reading again, and I'd like any comments on helping me resolve my gallery issue, thank you.

Gallery its own page. You can add a widget on the forum for the gallery and select random images or you can iframe the page and put it in a section. But that would look weird.

Oh ok! I suppose that'll work. I'll explore either option and see what I like best. Thank you for your help though, I appreciate it! ouo
