Solved User having problem enabling HTML

Post by 2dans March 3rd 2011, 11:13 am

Hi. I posted the instructions for enabling HTML in user profiles on my forum. One of my forum members sent me a message today saying they were having a problem getting this to work.

The problem is that when I modify my preferences and click save nothing happens for around a minute then I get a "zero received" message from "Squid"!?

As I'm not too tech minded myself, I've no idea what that would mean. Any ideas?

Thanks.

Ask them to clear their cache & check.

Thanks. I've sent them a PM and asked them to try that.

Solved Re: User having problem enabling HTML

Post by 2dans March 3rd 2011, 5:35 pm

Okay, well the problem seems to persist. This was the original PM I got.

I've had a few problems submitting a post. It wouldn't allow me to submit the image and text, but when I removed some of the text it went through. I tried a few combinations of the text, but couldn't fathom out what it was objecting to.

I suggested clearing cache, but apparently that doesn't help. If you happen to have any further ideas, let me know. Here's the subsequent PM I received

I've tried clearing the cache and cookies and it hasn't helped. I can make posts elsewhere on the forum and even on that thread (which I subsequently deleted as they were incomplete). It's as if it objected to something in the post itself. I tried enabling/disabling the HTML option for the post and it didn't seem to make a difference. When I made the post and try to save changes in the preferences I get the following message:

ERROR
The requested URL could not be retrieved

While trying to retrieve the URL:

http://space.forumotion.co.uk/profile

The following error was encountered:
Zero Sized Reply
Squid did not receive any data for this request

i am not clear what the problem is, is it a html problem, images problem or text?

for html you have to make sure you have it enabled in the ACP.

Admin panel>General>messages and emailed>configuration.

Scroll down to always allow html select yes and hit save, be sure your bbcode is on there as well.

Then you will have yo go to your profile preferences and select always allow HTML and click save as well, now the forums html is on.

for images make sure they are using the correct code that is provided from what ever image host they are using..

like direct links will just so as links.. it will have to be bbcode or html code for the images to appear in the post.

Then as far as text, well you will have to explain more what you mean by that, because text is text, not sure what you are doing?

Thanks for the replies. The user reports they are now able to submit the post without getting an error message - so while I'm no clearer as to what was causing the problem it appears to be solved. Smile
