Solved Navigation Bar On One Line

Post by OnTheBusesCrazy on March 8th 2011, 2:11 pm

Recently i have updated my website to have a more enhanced navigation bar. I can see it perfectly clear on my home machine which has lastest versions of IE8, Chrome, Opera, etc, but when i use a machine which is not mine (a network machine) the website navigation bar displays on one line, causing the site to appear very wide, i don't want this to happen on my site, i believe this is caused by the other machine i am using not having IE8, it has IE7 (and i cannot add it as i am not admin on that machine).

Is there a way i can get the navigtion bar to display on several lines (so that the site displays properly) on all types of Internet explorer?

Please note that i have un-ticked the option 'Display navigation bar on one line'.

Join the club your not the only one with this problem & it's probably not cuz your running IE7 it seems to happen more with old crt monitors.
The problem seems to have started several months back & forumotion hasn't deemed it worth while to fix.

Heres a link to old threads about this problem.

Navbar stays in one line and stretches edit box and forum, only for some users

Could you let me know plz if your using a flat screen when this happens or an old crt type monitor thanks.

Using a Lenovo flat screen at school, when using an older dell computer at home (also flat screen) the site appears fine.

Well I was having problems on my old crt & it was running IE 8 & another friend of mine was having same problem running IE 7 both were CRT screens but I didn't have the problem on my newer flat screens runing IE so now I'm starting to wonder if screen resolution might effect it.
Odd thing is my old crt were working fine & weren't forced to 1 line like they are now so I am left to believe that forumotion had made some changes.

Well, is anyone from Forumotion going to sort these problems out? :/

Probably not it's been this long already.
I gave up on them fixing it & moved some of my nav. buttons over to my side bar that only registered members can see. But since you don't use a side bar on your site the fix might not be so simple.
I'm sure the problem could be fixed, if it shows correctly on more than 1 line when set to show image & text then I don't see why it shouldn't work for just image. blackeye

How do you get a side bar on the website then?

Hi, I can get it onto two lines for you if you would like. This would be the outcome of it:

If you like it, then here is the CSS code you must add:

Code:
a.mainmenu {
    color: #6A60BA;
    display: inline-block;
    margin-left: 35px;
    margin-right: 17px;
    text-decoration: none;
}

Tell me if you would like any adjustments to be made. Smile

Hi Base I tried the code it worked well except for the large gap between the buttons is there any way that could be removed?

Thanx so much for the help.

I could reduce the gaps between the buttons, but then it would force the navigation bar onto one line. Smile

Thanks for that, it make the forum less wide, but changed the pixel size to 1 as i did not like the large gap, and prefer the smaller gap, will see what it looks like in the week when i am using a PC which makes the website look large.

I change the code to:
a.mainmenu {
color: #6A60BA;
display: inline-block;
margin-left: 1px;
margin-right: 1px;
text-decoration: none;
}

Could you get a code to make it appear on 3 lines???

Thanks very much!

Just checked on one of the computers which it never ususally dispalys on correctly, and it now displays correctly using:
a.mainmenu {
color: #6A60BA;
display: inline-block;
margin-left: 1px;
margin-right: 1px;
text-decoration: none;
}

And there is only a 1 pixel gap between each image! cheers

Thanks very much!
