Does it make a difference whether I delete threads or move them to the bin?

Does it make a difference whether I delete threads or move them to the bin?
Do old threads take up any space in the forum? Like does it make a difference whether I delete them or move them to the bin?

Hello rhe,
Deleting the posts removes them from the database thus creating room. If you move them to the bin then they are still there and taking up room. I wouldn't advise deleting posts unless you really want to because it also deletes the respective post from its poster's post count.

I know that's the problem. But we have so many unnecessary threads. And some people deliberately mass post in the chat thread to get their post count up. I don't care about spamming in that thread as long as they don't break any other rules. We have so many of those old chat threads and I think there's no point keeping those threads cause they're full of gibberish. (My users don't like the chatbox so that's out).
They've been asking for a bin where they can just read threads and keep their post count but if it's unnecessary and takes up a lot of space then there's no point in keeping the threads.
What kind of space does it use up? And if the space is used what will happen?

Well, it takes up the "topic count" space which is the number of the topics available on every single forum. To start off with, the limit is 65000 topics. If you happen to reach that amount, it can then be increased to 8 million and then increased to 4 billion.
Now, those figures that I've given you are massive. Even if you keep those topics, I can assure you that they take up only a miniscule amount of memory on your forum. Here is a topic about some limits: https://help.forumotion.com/t1709-some-limits-of-forumotion-forum
