Solved Forwarding forumotion address to a domain

Post by Guest March 29th 2011, 7:46 am

My custon domain forwards and masks the free forumotion name. I can still get to the free address. Is there a way to set it to default to my custom domain at all times? I dont want the free address competing with my custom domain in search results. Thanks

Example Forward:

myforum.forumotion.com
to
mydomain.com

Hi,

When in your domain management, tick the box "Force redirection"

It looks like you might be right. I was just curious if there were a DNS admin panel that is available. The issue isnt too important because I get very few hits on the free sub-domain and it hardly ever turns up in search results. This thread probably can be closed now.

I've already done the steps that are in the tutorial. When i type in my external domain name, my forum board shows up. The issue is that the free forumotion sub-domain still exists. What I am wanting is for people who go to the free forumtion address are redirected to using my custom domain name. I dont think it is possible.

I'm not seeing a "force" button under the personalized domain tab. Here is a screenshot:

Possibly, since you have got your domain name from outside forumotion.

Yep, this custom domain came from GoDaddy. I'm thinking that the force redirection only works if I purchased the domain from Forumotion. Last night I redid my forwarding and found a mistake. It was set to forward WWW to godaddy via an "A" host record the godady server was supposed to forward to forumotion, and it also had a CNAME (WWW) for forumotion. I deleted the host record so that it goes directly to forumotion instead of using forwarding rules on the GoDaddy server. I'm just not able to mask the free forum name so that it shows my custom domain even though the custom domain is showing my site.

I think that it is okay that my subdomain.forum-motion.com address is still visible on the web because it seems like Google sees it as duplicate content and points everything to the more popular custom domain.
