Personalised domain issue - Forumotion redirecting. Empty Personalised domain issue - Forumotion redirecting.

Post by dave-r April 1st 2011, 7:52 pm

This has been working for us up until today. Something at Forumotion has changed.

We have an external domain (built4track.co.uk). Our forum address is www.built4track.co.uk.

Today we've noticed that Forumotion redirects www.built4track.co.uk back to just built4track.co.uk. However on my server I'm redirecting built4track.co.uk back to www.built4track.co.uk. So there's now a redirect loop.

I've put a workaround in place for the time being to stop this so our forum is usable.

But what has changed at Forumotion and can this be fixed ASAP?

In case this gets asked:

www.built4track.co.uk is a CNAME of built4track.forumotion.co.uk

Under General > Forum Address, the "Personalized domain name" was entered as "www.built4track.co.uk" (although it only shows "http:// built4track.co.uk").

As I mentioned, we did this ages ago and it has worked fine. Until today.

This has happened to my forum too (thanks for your help with the workaround Dave as at least my members can get back on) - something has gone astray somewhere as my forum www.shihtzuwhispers.org.uk has worked fine for 2-3 years with this address

I'd like to bring bump this thread, because it's a problem that has just arisen for me too. It would seem that forumotion has a problem which has arisen very recently with re-directing loops.

As far as I know, my problem started on April 1st, and your post is April 1st...so what happened April 1st?!

So what is your workaround? If the workaround works for now I'd be happy to try it.

Yeah, I'll bump this back.

No response from Forumotion yet. I assume Typlo is the only person who can look in to this and sort it and there's no one else technical?

Since I've reported this there has been a steady trickle of other users with exactly the same problem.

ribena_wrath, the only "workaround" is to turn off your personalised domain for your forum. Then at the domain provider set your domain to redirect to your Forumotion sub-domain.

For example your personalised domain is foo.com and your forumotion sub-domain is foo.forumotion.co.uk. Set foo.com to redirect to foo.forumotion.co.uk

So it's not a great workaround but at least your users will still be able to access your forum.

Well I gave it a trial period, and everything has been working perfectly now. No complaints from members yet.

So what was the problem then?

Thanks too whoever fixed it, I'm sure everyone who hasn't replied is really grateful Smile
