Creating topics permission Empty Creating topics permission

Post by Queen Julien April 18th 2011, 11:50 pm

Hi! I was wondering if it's possible to make it so certain members can not make topics. I've got a problem with a certain member making unneeded topics a lot so it'd be great if I could take her topic making ability away. I've spent time looking around the permissions in the admin panel, but I can't seem to figure it out. So if it is possible, could someone please let me know the steps of taking away the topic making abilities of one user? Thanks very much!

Make a group for the user and remove access for the permissions.

I made a group earlier, but I'm not exactly sure how to remove permissions for it. I went under the permissions tab of the group and then clicked the forum titles, but the check boxes for permissions aren't clickable for me.

I'm admin, but I'm not the creator of the forum. Is this something the creator can only do? The creator left about a year ago, but I've got access to his account.

Wouldn't matter. Click advanced permissions in the categories & forums.

Is this the right area I'm under?
Spoiler:
I think "Open a topic" is the one I need to uncheck for the group. It's not allowing me to uncheck those lighter boxes, though.

Well, that did allow me to take away the right to make topics for that one group, but it also took it away from all the normal members as well. I have a feeling this isn't going to work. xD

Hmm.. that's weird that you're unable to uncheck it for the 'Open a topic', What browser are you using? Have you tried other browsers?

I'm using Firefox. I just tried it out on Internet Explorer and it's still not allowing me to uncheck it.

Ooohhh, ok! *clicks* Haha, still no good.

Anything else we can try? If not, it's no big deal. I can just start giving out temp bans if she keeps making unneeded topics. Thanks for all the help, by the way!

Is it solved? It's really weird that your forum doesn't allow this, I have my testforum allowed and only admins are not allowed to be removed by this permission/uncheck that box.

Yeah, it's still not working. I'll try it again sometime in the future, maybe then it'll work. You can go ahead and lock this up, if you want. :3
