Solved How do I activate and allow the spider bots in my forum?

Post by DigitalCyanide 25/4/2011, 06:14

Hi everyone. Happy Easter.
I was just wondering where the allow the bots is in the ACP?
I am a co-owner in a forum and we allowed them. and that forum is now in most search engines, and see the spiders on a daily basis.

The forum I am trying to resurrect has been submitted to the search engines, but I can't seem to locate that little check box to allow them. Maybe I missed something but it's not here. Or at least I cannot locate it.
I remember that you have to allow them as some people want their forum a private community and not in web searches. Not me.
Where did the little check box go? Or where has it hidden itself?
Any help would be appreciated.
Thank you in advance.

There is no option here. Google, MSN (Bing) and Yahoo are allowed. Nothing else.

I am not asking what engines are allowed.

Actually Google serves as a base engine to the likes of Ask.com and a few others.
But....Alas.......
That's not my question.
I remember that owners when configuring the the forum had to tick a little box either allowing or disallowing the bots to scan the forum. They only had access to the pages and boards you allowed Guests to see. I cannot seem to find that option. Was it removed?
In the forum I am a partner in and the Admin activated this and we submitted our home page url to Google and Bing. Within' 24 hours Bing and Google bots were scanning. ( yes I know sometimes it takes longer. The engine scans for content that people actually search for on the www. Before the "Maybe your content is useless!" comment comes up. we are part of the fastest growing independent 3d artist communities out there offering freebies. and we're not even a Twilight site! ).
Not to discount your comment BeBot, but we never submitted to Yahoo, but we're in there. Why? Because Yahoo leeches it's directories from Google and Bing ( MSN ). Always has. Just like T-Mobile steals signals from At&t, Verizon, and Sprint.

EDIT:
I apologize for the sarcasm. But I know how search engines work. The TOS here has no specs on what are allowed engines and what aren't. Last I looked anyway.

It's in your forum permissions.
if you allow guest to view content in your forums then the bots can gather the information.

So for that you can just have it set for guest to view and not to post unless they are members.
